Guys, I'm looking for some opinions for a good hunting shotgun. I currently have a Mossberg 535 and the short story is it's a POS. I'm selling it off, or trading it in, and buying what I should have purchased the first time. I want something that will outlive me. I'm willing to spend some money but I'm not going to break the bank. I'd like to get a semi-auto, but would consider an over/under. I'm currently looking at a new Beratta A390 but also considering looking used like an older Browning A5 or Winchester. I know this topic has been discussed at nauseam on hunting and shotgun forums so I'll keep it to a simple question:

If you bought a semi-auto shotgun that cost between $600 - $1,000, what is it, pros/cons and would you buy it again?

That's one of the brands I'm considering. Right now, I'm leaning toward Beratta, Browning, Benelli and a couple others on a case by case basis. Would you say it's worth it to buy new and get the lower end model of what they offer or used and get a little higher end model for the same price?

I bought a stoeger m3500, its on the lower end of the price spectrum but uses benelli's inertia system.
I haven't had any problems with mine, but my cousin has had a few issues with his not cycling 3.5" rounds properly (the bolt won't pick up the next round 100% reliably.

For that price range is try to find an A-5, Get a new BPS (I know you aren't looking for pumps), or get a stoeger.

What's sort of funny, looking back now, is I almost bought a used A5 and am kicking myself for not doing it. I bought the 535 because it would cycle 3.5" shells but now I realize how ignorant I was being. I can take down anything I need to with a standard shell, no need to beat up my arm for nothing. Thanks for the input

I would say a used high end model. Just make sure you can inspect and maybe pattern it if possible.

I don't know dick about shotguns but I've always heard you can't go wrong with any of the B's (Browning Beretta abd Benelli)

Good advice, I hadn't thought of that (the patterning part, I would of course inspect them thoroughly). I might actually be able to work something out with patterning prior to buying. I've come to know 2 local gunsmiths / shops to where they might work with me on that.
And I'm pretty sure Beretta owns Benelli and Franchi also, at least that's what I keep coming across in my research. So basically Beretta and Browning. :)

Those are getting popular in the 3-gun world now. Poor mans Benelli and they use the same parts for the most part. Shouldn't have any trouble getting rid of it if you decide to.
A 3000 or 3500 will be my next shotgun to replace my FN SLP MK2

I almost bought an old A5 but decided against it and am kicking myself for it now. It was my first firearm and the age scared me away, stupid on my part. My local shop actually has 4 old A5s in stock, varying conditions and years. Do you hunt with yours and does it pattern well?

I doubt I'll ever get rid of it, it's been a great gun so far and I shoot it almost as well as my winchester 1200.

Dad went and got a M&P shield in .40 today for his concealed carry handgun, any suggestions on IWB holsters?
I was showing him this aliengear holster.

This is what I have for my shield:
    http://www.atomicdogholsters.com/Store.html#!/Electron-IWB/p/27538191/category=6457037

As my summer gun, I like that it's all kydex (wont absorb sweat) so it's thinner than any other option (fat holster little gun, no thanks.)

I think that a hybrid holster feels better/more secure than a full kydex though. I don't like how Alien Gear uses spacers for retention..it's basically open between the shell and the leather except for where the 4 screws are.

I just picked up a browning BAR grade IV in .270. It was a Katrina flood gun I think. Rather rusty, had a leupold vari-x 3x9 compact scope on it. I will post pictures when I get home. The gun is salvageable but not pretty. The butt stock is salvageable but forend is not. I got the scope cleaned up though and it is clear as day and looks great. All said and done I've got $270 in it including shipping and transfer fees.

Pictures from the seller and a picture of the cleaned up scope (last ring is being a pain)

The chamber has no rust whatsoever, the inside the barrel isn't bad, had rust but it's cleaning up pretty good from what I've been able to do

I don't think I can really give too many details here, but if anyone is interested in going to a shooting school(handgun, rifle or shotgun), PM me.
