Nice. Love my shield. I put a Crimson Trace and some grip tape on mine before I added it to the CCW rotation. I actually like the factory trigger on mine, though.

    As for the slide cover...

    Basic 3-dot sights.
This is the only sign of wear I can find on it, where the barrel rides in the bushing.
And this is the only mar in the finish that I've found-
    [IMG]

Not bad for a used gun!
It's interesting; I can see a lot of similarities in the design of my S&W 5906, with some subtle differences like the safety design and the fact that the S&W is DA/SA vs the 1911's SA only. It's obvious that the S&W engineers started by studying what they liked about Browning's original design and changed/modernized what they didn't.

Of course, there's some considerably less subtle differences between my 5906 and the SR1911...

I was looking for a basic/classic 1911 design, and this one fits the bill perfectly, as far as I'm concerned, for an entry-level 1911. I like that it's no frills, with nice clean lines. There are a couple of 'custom' touches like the skeletonized trigger and hammer and the beavertail safety, but they don't affect that 'classic 1911' feel for me. The fit & finish are excellent for a 'budget' version of this design, plus it's made in the USA & I like the low-maintenance requirements of stainless steel. As a bonus I can feed it +P ammo without damaging it (according to Ruger), and most of the parts on it can be subbed for standard 1911 aftermarket stuff. It points naturally for me and I can easily rest my trigger finger on the trigger guard or frame when I'm not actively shooting the gun, which appeals to the 'trigger discipline nazi' in me.

On the other hand, I'm not crazy about the Hogue monogrips that came on it and will likely swap them out for something thinner, like a set of beveled two-piece grips. I like the grip that comes from their rubberized design, but my hands are too small for a comfortable grip. They're also too small to thumb off the slide release with my primary hand without adjusting my grip more than I'm comfortable with (an extended slide release will likely be in the gun's future for this reason)

This ruger 1911s are sweet, get you a set of nice walnut or cocobolo grips for it and your set. In my opinion The Houge grips are comfortable but super ugly. But functional. I've got pachmayr rubber wrap arounds on my 1911, it's ugly but comfortable and works.

Did you get the factory grips with it as well?

If you want one, get one....and if you don't reload it's time to start learning how lol.

Yeah, I generally liked the stock trigger, but came to find for me that there was so much play in the first part of the pull that I wanted something a bit more taut. This dropped resistance to 5.5lbs, too, if I remember correctly. It's really smooth now the entire pull. What're your other ccw's?

Nah, no factory grips, but it's not a big loss. I can always pick a set of used factories up on ebay if I wanted to, but I'm eyeballing a nice set of Cocobolo's with a bevel for the mag release. I agree that the Hogue grips are ugly as hell. Comfortable and functional, like you said, but not attractive.

Gotcha. Yeah, the Shield does have that typical DA long trigger pull. Not as long as some, but long enough to be annoying if that sort of thing bothers you.
I've got a S&W Bodyguard .380 that I usually carry during the summer (much easier to conceal under a tee shirt or in a pocket than the Shield is). The Shield is my go-to winter CCW, and I also have a G19 and a S&W 5906 that I'll occasionally carry during the winter if the mood strikes and I'm wearing a heavy/long enough jacket.

Anyone have any opinions on SxS shotguns? I am wanting to pick up a new upland gun. I grew up with a Ithaca O/U, 20g, loved it, and now my wife shoots it. Moved into a Browning BPS, hated it, hate pumps in general. Scored a Benelli M1 super 90, which is what I am currently using. Its great and all, especially with the extended mag tube, but when I hunt with it I feel like I am just spraying and praying. I would just go back to my Ithaca, but my wife loves it, and wont give it up. I will probably be buying a 20g if that matters.

I have an Ithaca/SKB SxS that I use for partridge and I love it. Everything I've read/heard about the Ruger Red Labels is that they're a nice gun.

I've got a Mossberg Silver Reserve O/U. The fit and finish is not very good, but it shoots well. I wasn't looking for a collectible gun, just an affordable gun for skeet and just to have fun with. I think it fits the bill. They make a SxS in the Silver Reserve line as well.

Anyone have an opinion on the Kimber Super Carry Pro? I like 1911's too much that I want a smaller lighter one for my carry gun... yes I am aware of the colt mustang and the Sig p238 and p938...

I've always wanted a nice Kimber so I thought this was a nice opportunity to get one

Kimber's are overrated. Look into the Sig's. The C3 is a nice carry piece.
