Thanks for the heads up. I clean and oil all of my boomsticks very regularly, so it won't likely be an issue for me, but I'll keep an eye out.
That's surprising that there's a rust problem with these, given that they're stainless steel. My 5906 seems to be pretty much impervious to rust/corrosion, but it may be a different grade of stainless. :notsure:

Strange. Never seen a SS gun do that. Now I've got to go pull mine out of the safe, Strip it down and pull the grips off, put it under the lamp, and do a super close inspect, haha!

If your Ruger starts to rust, they'll replace it. Guy on a local forum had an issue with that and they gave him a new one. My front sight came off of mine and they replaced my slide.

Well mine passed inspection. No spots that I could see, even under the grips. I re-oiled under there as a just in case.
Wonder if Ruger had a bad batch of steel at some point or something. I did some googling last night and found other people that had the same problem with rust; spontaneous overnight rust on well-maintained guns, and other people that have left their guns in a holster, in the car for weeks with no problems. :notsure:

Yeah mine just fell out. It was out of spec.

I'm fairly certain it was a bad batch

I'd like to paint my AR for this deer season (Should have my 6.8 running soon, found a scope I can borrow from my 30-30, all I need is a hand guard, magazine, and gas block roll pin).
Any ideas on pattern/color to use?
The area I'm hunting is mostly pines and underbrush.
I was going to make some templates and just use spray paint.

When I painted my rifle, I laid down a light base, and went darker and darker. Find some leaves, grass, etc paint over it, lay down some more, paint over it, etc.... Each color gets a shade darker. Don't remove anything until you are completely done painting. The paint finds its way through the layers. I think mine turned out nice.

Just make VERY sure you've got the scope caps on before you start. ;)

Yeah, I actually taped the glass, put an earplug in the barrel and removed the trigger assembly. Cover anything you don't want painted, scope numbers, magazine wells, etc...

    Cool, thanks for the info.

I don't have a scope on it yet so I'm good.

Just gonna cover the S/N and trust engraving, and stick a Pmag in the mag well so I have a matching mag.
I'm not gonna bother with making sure the T marks on the upper get taped, to much hassle.

I assume you mean the new Mod2? If so, I can't stand that they felt the need to put 'GRIP ZONE' on the side of the grip in giant letters. I hate when car manufacturers feel the need to advertise options (4Matic! Quattro!) on the outside of a vehicle and to me this is even worse. The idea of a double stack XDs intrigues me but to carve that giant zit into the side of it is just stupid.

Failed? Anytime a manufacturer chooses to not make a model in .40 I see it as a great success. That's just me though.

It's the ultimate answer to the question nobody asked. It's too snappy and was designed at a time when ballistic technology was non-existent. Today's ammo advancements make 9mm a plenty viable caliber (with more government agencies going to it after millions in research) and the line between 9mm and .40 ballistically is almost non-existent in real world performance plus 9mm is far more controllable in hammer fire panic situations. If 9mm doesn't fit the bill get .45acp or 10mm. There's really no reason for the .40 S&W round other than for Glock to sell more handguns to LE agencies in the 80's. Some people to this day claim it's the perfect cross between 9mm & .45acp but the truth is that it has both of the downsides with neither of the benefits. I loathe the .40S&W round and IMO it's not even worth debating because those who love it generally aren't open the possibility of science and fact.

    You asked, I answered. ;)

Anyone heard or know anything about an FNH - FNS .40 cal ? Guy wants to trade me one for one of my quadcopters and I've never heard of them before, on their website the quality looks good but I've no experience with them.

I have a FNS9 that I'm a big fan on. FN makes like 90% of our military guns so their stuff can't be too bad.

The only negative thing I can think of is it doesn't have 10 different aftermarket options for every part like a Glock has. But they're getting more common so I'm sure that it'll change.
