    nothing cool
Another TW member gave you great information. I shoot aluminum 9mm out of my Glock all the time, $10 for 50rds at Walmart. The only small small gripe have is how smoothe the casing is. Makes it a little hard to load the magazine. Super wussy problem to have but whatever.

I've got about 800 in the trade I gave for it. I was pleased with the trade

The Lucky Gunner did one of the best exhaustive tests on this. I don't think it's that the case is steel, but rather the bullet is bimetallic. It's copper and steel. That's what is really causing the barrel erosion.

Some of the Russian stuff can also have corrosive primers. Make sure to clean well after shooting...

IIRC box of truth theorized that since steel doesnt expand as much as brass, the casing doesnt seal as well and fouling from the bullet firing gets up and builds up between the casing and chamber and causes stuck casings

Yeah, the original design comes in to play. Russian guns are designed around them. Loose tolerances, a taper in the case/chamber to prevent stuck cases, etc.

Walmart has Federal Aluminum 9's. So Federal makes Aluminum case also. I never shoot steel in any of my guns. Not my AR, Tavor, Glocks, Shield and etc. I've shot Aluminum case but only when I owned a Hi Point C9. But never steel. Most people shoot steel and don't have issue. I just choose not to run it.

Some of the indoor ranges in my area doesn't allow steel case ammo because its bimetal. But they allow Aluminum and brass.

I also don't run steel cased ammo in my guns. Brass only in the rifles and brass or aluminum in the pistols.

Most rifle ammo I shoot is M193 5.56 NATO. And for pistols it's 124 gr 9mm NATO ball.

The only gun I shoot steel cased ammo in is my AK47... everything else typically gets brass.

The test they did was really well done. Well worth reading.

If I remember right the steel cased stuff lasted 4k rounds till the accuracy decreased and after 10k rounds was pretty much total crap. But the biggest thing is in 10k rounds you could buy two new barrels (at 250 each) and still be under cost of shooting only brass. For the "average" ar shooter 4k is a ton of shooting. I know plenty of guys (myself included) who have ar s with under 1k through them and have had them a few years.

I shoot steel cased for general plinking when I need factory ammo (new gun usually) but shoot brass 95% of the time just cause I reload. Now my 762x39 and 54r obviously are steel.

I shoot primarily steel in both my AK and AR. I shoot a lot, probably three times/month. The money I save shooting steel will more than pay for replacing a shot-out barrel or whatever. I have friends who will only shoot brass so as not to hurt their AR's and they are what I would term safe queens cause that can't afford to shoot them. I consider these guys gun collectors not shooters.

Question for you guys, has anyone used the raven concealment vanguard "holster"? Thinking about giving it a shot but don't know how I really feel about it.

I haven't used it but I know a person who is looking at something similar as an additional safety for carrying her handgun in a corset holster, her biggest fear is her toddler accidentally pulling the trigger through the clothes.

I've looked at them but I don't know...I feel like maybe for a pocket pistol that you want to put on your waist it would work...I just feel like it doesn't have the "support" you'd need with a bigger gun.

Yeah, it is nice that it slides over the trigger guard.
Yeah I don't know either... I was planning on using it with my glock 26 it might just be the right size for it. I don't think I would want to try using it with anything bigger than that though.

In regards to the VG2, I've been using one since they came to the market. For what they are, they're awesome.

    Pros:

    1. Minimal footprint to the design, which makes for better concealment of similar sized pistols (in an apples to apples comparison).

    2. The injection-molded guard completely covers the trigger guard of your pistol, snaps in place and won't slip out - this allows secure and stable carry of G17/22/31 sized handguns (and the M&P line) all the way down to the subcompact.

    3. Can be worn anywhere on the belt, save the small of your back.

    4. It can be used like the original Vanguard, and comes with a lanyard just like the original.

    Cons:

    1. Reholstering. You have to unsnap the VG2, pull it out of your waistband, press the guard in a vertical motion up and over the pistol's trigger guard, and then re-secure your pistol in your waistband. Ergo, it's not for a training course.

    2. While it can be worn in a lot of different places on the belt, it's primarily designed for AIWB carry. If you're good with that, then you'll love this thing. I haven't tried it anywhere else on the belt, as I'm happy with my Raven Phantom OWB for typical carry.

    3. This sort of holster is more stable with a larger pistol (full-sized G17 or M&P) than a pistol with a shorter slide (like a G26). It'll work just fine with a subcompact; however, the longer slide of a G17 helps keep the longer grip tucked into my midsection better. Just like every other AIWB rig.

If you own a Glock or M&P, then it's worth picking up and trying out. Like every other holster, it depends on a good, stiff gun belt to work properly. I have no problems with my current favorite belt (a Wilderness Frequent Flyer), but the pistol/VG2 combo would probably work better with a more robust belt like the Ares Gear AEGIS.

    HTH.

Hey guys, I got an SVT-40 2 weeks ago and whenever I shoot it it triggers a migraine (pisses me off, sweet shooting gun other than that)

But because of this, it's for sale. I've had it posted a few places for 1150 shipped, but I'll do 1050 for TW members. If someone wants it. Here is a picture. If anyone Is interested I have more detailed pictures and info
