    Heh, wife made the mistake of wearing a V neck one day and had a brass burn somewhere fairly uncomfortable.

    For her sake (and mine, lol), she's wearing round collared shirts out in the range and woods these days.

    Which, btw, is why every time I see a girl posed a gun, I look askance at their clothing if it's got the possibility of catching brass.

    Started getting the scope sighted in today. A little at 25 yards (last group center bottom target), 50 yards (last group center of left target, then tried 75 yards (last group top center target). A little more work to do at 75, but im not sure if i want a 50 or 75 zero.

    Pretty sure a 50yd zero is most common on 556

    Depends on which branch, barrel length/twist rate, and ammo. 25/250 yards would be correct for a Marine with an M16A1 back in the day. An Army dude with an M16A4 would zero at 25 meters and that battle sight zero would also be dead on at 342 meters. An Army dude with an M4A1 firing M855 ammo would zero at 25M and also be dead on at 300M. Some like to zero the M4 at 36M, if they are used to shooting the M16A4 the trajectory will end up pretty close at 340ish meters. Then you have those goofy SF guys that zero at 100 meters, because anything under 100 is pistol range. The Army has also tried a 50 Meter "improved battlesight zero" that crosses the line of sight at 50/225, mostly for ACOG use in urban areas. Then there is "point blank zero" where you try to achieve a zero that increases probability of a hit based on a 6" target at ranges from the muzzle out to XXX yards, but that's mostly for non .mil applications. I zero at 25M with my back up iron sights, and zero magnified optics at 100M with my personal weapons, but I like to confuse myself.

    @username : I know, I'm dating myself a bit. ;)

    If it helps you any, CG still rocks the M16A1's. We were a trial unit for the M4A1 when I was in Drum, though. Of course, totally different for personal gear. On my AR57pistolathing, I do a zero that works from zero to 200 ('practical carbine'/MOUT ranges), and on my 16 and 20" AR rifles I'm primary on the scope, 100 yard zero on those and I have a sheet with the windage calculations acetated to the stock. BUIS on them are still 25 yard zero, though.

    Should be easy enough to dial back then. Just gonna need more ammo!
    My scope is 3-9x. Thats why im not sure if i should zero out a little further? Plinking/rodent/maybe try deer.
    I dont have any buis at the moment. 16inch barreel, 1in9 twist. Typically shooting 55 grain freedom ammunition

    Barrel length?

    Really, though. What most folks I know do is to find a known distance (KD) range, do an initial zero, and then log their +- to make that graph (above) based on that chart, then rezero based on that based on preferences.

    16 inch barrel. Maybe ill try a 75 first. A 50 yard shot should be easy to target while having some extra range.

    Gonna go hunting with my 6.8 build tomorrow AM for whitetail, I currently have SSA 110 accubond, Federal fusion MSR 115 grain, and remington core lokt 115 bonded PSP.

    Of those options what's my best bet for deer hunting? The shot will likely be within 50 yards.

    I e-filed mine on August 14th and still no stamp. NFA Tracker shows between Dec-Jan as being the most likely approval time for me.

    I like the Core-Lokt, personally. Always had good luck with them for everything from a 32spl to a 7mm Rem Mag. Never had anything make it further than 20 yards.

    We have always used the core lokt ammo in our 30-30's and it's worked well, but some things I've read had made me slightly nervous with it in the 6.8 chambering.

    I'm gonna stop by the local sports store on my way to the hunt area and see if they have any Hornady 120SST in stock, only read good things about that load.
