Those all seem like good reasons to me and it is the reason I have a 9mm. I don't believe in being a caliber snob, so do what works for you. I still shoot my .40 for fun, but I use the 9mm more often for range/training because it's more affordable over 500-1000 rounds.

I did that a few years back. I did keep one G23 and a case of ammo though since .40 ammo was all I could find during the madness a couple years ago.

    All my pistols are 9mm.

It won't knock the bad guy 30ft thru a wall like 45 will do though.

Per my research I can convert my M&P40 to 9mm or 357 sig just by changing the barrel, 9mm of course also needs the 9mm mags for reliability.
More options for when ammo is scarce, so I could use 3 calibers for the price of another gun.

So I've been rolling around a thought in my head.

What if someone bought a hi point carbine in say a 9mm.

Then shorten the barrel to 16.5" and thread it for 1/2-28

Then port the barrel and make an integral suppressor

No reason it can't be done. You'd need an NFA form 1, reasonable machining skills and a knowledge of suppressor baffle systems to get any kind of decent performance out of it. The big benefit of porting a carbine barrel is that you would actually lose some velocity and might be able to keep 115 gr ammo subsonic. I believe the MP5SD works on a similar premise.

Thanks for not being a nay sayer! For machining capabilities, I'm a machinist with experience in tight tolerances for medical and fairly experienced programming.

Even better idea came to mind, what if one just had the barrel shortened to 11" and made a suppressor @ 6" so after threading on the combined length was 16.25" at least. Then permanently attach the combination so only a form 1 would be needed for the suppressor? No SBR?

Goal for this gun is to be able to take out varmint(Fox, coyote, badger, skunk) if they get into my wife's chickens if we buy this house with some acreage....or at least that's how I will reason with her....The house is out of city limits but has neighbors on the one side that I wouldn't want to wore late at night so id prefer to stay sub sonic. My suppressed creedmoor wouldn't work so well

    I wouldn't permanently attach a can...

What you could do is weld a shroud to the end of the barrel that goes around the can, that way it's legal length but you can still detach the can.

It shouldn't be an issue with 9mm, 22lr I could see wanting to be able to take it off for disassembly.

Any pics of that done or similar weapons?

As far as being able to use the can on other guns I'm not too worried about that, as I don't have many other guns that I don't want to build different kinds on cans for

Have you shot suppressed 22 and suppressed 9mm? 9mm is a pretty great suppressed round, but 22 is fantabulous. A 16" suppressed bolt gun in 22 LR is the ultimate silent varmint killer. I would highly recommend simply investing the $500 to $600 in a quality 22 LR can/stamp.
