I'm wondering if those targets do as much harm as good. Just because a gun has a set of sights on it doesn't mean it's sighted in. Point of impact will change when switching ammo as well. I suppose if you use this target to identify why you have fliers then it's great. If you are using it to sight in your weapon, you'll be chasing your tail. If you are shooting consistent groups that are off center, adjust the sights. Everyone grips and shoots a pistol a little bit differently. That's why most have some adjustment in the sights and why different heights are available. Under stress you will grip and shoot the pistol however you naturally do. It takes a lot of training to retrain your natural grip and shot. Fixing an error that causes fliers is one thing, trying to sight your pistol in based on this is quite the other.

Well I personally, would definitely get some form of a 22 for practice and just plain good fun. 22 will always be cheaper to shoot and nicer to your neighbor. As for the rest of it, to me, it's just business as usual.

Then just dry fire it and save the ammo. it wouldn't be the boom that you would be working on, it would be the trigger pull that would want to working on.

My sig is a dao, I hit The bull's-eye a few times , and a guy at the range hit the bull's-eye on the second shot using my pistol ... so I don't think it's the sights, I think it's me

Do you have a base or a lead sled, or something of that nature to mount it in, to take it out of your hands and see what it's doing?

OK. I thought you meant all your rounds were going into the same area. Sometimes it just takes more practice in the form of more trips to the range and less rounds each time. That's were a 22 handgun can come in handy.

I wouldn't necessarily say you should get one, I guess that all depends on how serious You want to get into firearms. I have a range, so anything is feasible in and advancement in my set up. But not everybody has that availability to put that kind of time in. If it doesn't bother you that much, just go have fun. Like somebody else just said here, you can be chasing your tail with all the variables, some fixed some unfixed in the world of handguns and ammo

    This.
Shooting is something you have to do regularly to 'keep your eye in' and .22 makes it so much easier to afford. I probably put 200 rounds of .22 downrange for every magazine of .223. Same thing applies with my 9mm's and 45; When I'm practicing with pistols I'll put a couple hundred rounds through the 22A before I even touch the larger calibers.
.22 is more versatile than people think; you can use it for plinking/practice, obviously, but for hunting it'll work on pretty much anything that weighs less than 50lbs if you aim right (I've dropped everything from squirrels to coyotes with generic bulk Winchester .22 HP's; the purpose-designed hunting rounds are probably even more effective). And you can put away a few thousand rounds for short money, so there's no reason not to. Just make sure that your gun 'likes' a brand before you buy a ton of it; some .22's are picky, especially the pistols.

I've heard that about the Mosquito. The only thing that my 22A won't cycle reliably (at least that I've found so far) is subsonic loads, for obvious reasons.

Don't mind me, I'm just drooling over that mule deer in your profile pic. That's the one animal that I must shoot before I die.

Anybody ever had any issues with a Springfield XD-S .40? Bought mine last week and noticed the slide doesn't fully slide forward when chambering the first round; I have to tap it in order for it to chamber and fire. Bullets are also catching when ejecting. Suggestions? Tried to email Springfield, no response.

My old XDs45 did that too. The general response was that you can't be gentle with the slide when you rack it.

So.... when it's in a holster and the slide gets pushed back and sticks and you get into a situation where you have to fire your weapon that you then potentially have to dick around making sure you have a bullet chambered? Not acceptable, especially for someone who wants to conceal carry.
