    Gah!
    I want it, it's a good deal. But I already have a .357, a Ruger GP100. And I should probably be saving that $450 for holiday shopping, lol. Doubly so since that's what he'll be using the $$ from selling it for, haha!

    Never mind once you shoot the S&W you won't want the Ruger anymore, good thing we averted that dilemma.

    Meh. My dad has a 66 that I love shooting, but I really enjoy shooting my Ruger too.

    Do you know what the year of manufacture is?

    Nope and nope, lol.
    My friend swapped the monogrip on almost as soon as he inherited it from his grandfather, and has since lost the original wood grips. The monogrip fits my hand really nicely, but certainly isn't very attractive. My buddy is kind of a limp-wrister (he gives a dead-fish handshake; one of his few downsides) and liked how the monogrip made it easier to control the gun.
    He got it when his grandfather died, and isn't really a gun guy but thought he'd give it a shot (har har :rolleyes: ), but doesn't really know anything about guns in general or this one in particular. He hasn't shot it in close to 10 years, and back then it only took a couple of trips to the range and burned through 3-4 boxes of 38's. And his grandfather only shot it a few times because his arthritis kept him from either pulling back the hammer or pulling the trigger in DA more than a few times at once :-/

    I'll run the serial # when I get some time and see if I can narrow it down to a year of manufacture.

    But, I might be interested in those grips. If nothing else, they're certainly prettier.

    It does shoot well but that 44 shoots extremely well... I use it to shoot bowling pins on some weekend fun events here at a local range.....

    Anybody have experience with a ptr 91? I've wanted one a while and I've been thinking this might be as good a weekend as any to pick one up. Local gun shop has a ptr 91 gi for $900. I am open to an ar10 (no specific brand) as well.

    The biggest negative thing about the PTRs is shit ergos. If you reload, they tend to mangle brass but there is apparently something you can buy to help solve that.

    If I was to buy a semi auto 308 under $1500 today, I'd look closely at the M&P10 or Armalite A pattern rifles.

    @P2W
    Did some serial number research this morning. It's a 41Kxxxx gun, which drops it into the 1978-79 range. Since 1978 production started at 24k and 1979 production ended at 56k, it seems likely that this was built during the first couple months of '79.

    Definitely not a super valuable collector gun, but it should be a fun shooter. It was stored in a gun safe with a goldenrod, but in a foam case, so it's got some moisture marks on the bluing for the cylinder that I'm going to have to see if I can minimize with some cleaning and a good oiling. But they obviously don't affect the functionality of the gun, so I'll just tell myself that I don't really care.
