Thanks @smugly and @pittim I'll take a closer look at ar 10s. My biggest draw to the ptr is the cheap mags, but for a better rifle I'll pay a higher price for the mags.

Here are the stocks I have. They're bit lighter than the the photo shows but they'd be about the right ones for that model year. PM me so I know where to send em.

Do your self a favor, don't use cheap mags.

Lancer mags are the shit, Lancer AWFs are what I run in my gun and I have never had an issue with them.

Magpul has mags for the AR10 that are reasonable $ and decent

Mossberg 500 Magpul was delivered on Friday! Picked up some 00 buckshot today and hopefully getting out to check the pattern on some leftover pumpkins from Halloween tomorrow!!!

Looking at some weapon mounted lights for it... Would love a Surefire model, but not sure I want to spend $200 on a $300 shotgun. Thinking about going with a Streamlight ProTac 1 for $90 instead. Reviews seem pretty positive from what I've read.

    @BYBO

Looks like a Ward's Western Field to me. The lack of markings isn't uncommon, since the Western Field brand guns were rebranded Savage-Stevens/Marlin/Mossbergs (Correct me if I'm wrong?), and they're the only one I can think of that had that weird lumpy 'hand grip' trigger guard thing.

As for age, they were (again, going by memory) late 30's or 40's. Value isn't anything special, usually in the $100-200 range it seems like. Not a lot of demand for old bolt-action shotguns like that, but I've never understood why because my Poly-choke Mossberg 395kb makes a hell of a Turkey gun. :notsure:
I'd vote to keep it; you won't get much for it if you sell it, and if it patterns well it should make a damn good brush hunter.

Thanks! I didn't figure it was worth much. The neighbors grandpa died and he wanted to sell off his guns. I ended up with 5 total. I probably could have gotten them a lot cheaper, but I wouldn't have been able to sleep at night. He only wanted $150 for a like new Taurus .38 special. I gave him $200.

Do you hunt? You might really like that gun. See how it patterns, with a couple of different brands & loads. Bolt action shotguns are slower on the followup shot than a pump gun, but (in my personal, incredibly non-professional, minute-of-animal, experience with my own guns) they seem to be more consistent on shot placement. :notsure:

I paid $100 for my Mossberg 395kb (poly choke), and I've shot 2 deer and more partridge, rabbits, squirrels & turkeys than I can count with it. I've been so successful with it that now it's my go-to gun 90% of the time when I go shotgun hunting. It's a clunky ugly duckling compared to the sleek semi's and pump guns you usually meet in the field, but when you pull the trigger she goes into swan mode.

I agree wholeheartedly, but you can get mil surp g3 mags for like $3.50 a piece. Made by HK. Other than new HK mags I don't know if there is a better option for that pattern of rifle. If that is all I am giving up for switching to a better all around rifle though I am more than willing to give that up.

If you're shooting a HK or clone you get what you can get, if you're shooting an AR or rifle that accepts AR mags, don't waste you're time with cheap crap mags.

And you can get Ramen soup, 10 packets for a dollar. That doesn't mean it's the BEST choice. AR 10's are more trustworthy, their parts are much more avaluable , they are a much more stable and cleaner running of a system. Unless if you are gearing up for. Armageddon on a budget, the AR 10 is just a better choice, If money really isn't an issue, 91's are fun guns to have. But if you had to choose one over the other AR 10 wins hands-down. IMO

Anyone have any thoughts as to whether or not the import ban for Russian made guns will be repealed? Hoping for some cheap commie-bloc guns in the coming years!
I don't mean to go into the politics side, strictly from an availability basis.

Anybody have a hook up for a K-frame hammer nose? They seem to be on the diminishing supply these days. The one on my 65-3 broke last range trip.

The problem is the gun is a pre-1988 model. All the ones I can find for post-1988 models :pout:

Smith and Wesson directly, then. If you're the original owner, it won't cost you anything. If you aren't, at least it'll be an OE part. :notsure:
