I got my new Zorn holster for my G19 in today. I custom ordered one of their Skinny Rig IWB holsters in coyote brown with a 5° cant, full sweat guard with combat cut and the "skinny wing." I'm going to carry it appendix but it can be carried behind the hip as well. I'll post up more of a review after I have carried it for a few days.

I can say right now this holster is the cleanest built kydex holster I've ever had or seen. All the bends are crisp, no burrs, all the edges are smoothed but not rounded, hardware setup is great, retention is crisp and very adjustable.

What does everyone think about the 1911? I would ask this on 1911 BS, but everyone would be pro. Always been a fan of the glock, but I feel like trying a different brand. I carry a G17 daily, so I'm fine with full sizes.

Yes I know mag cap is horrible, but I'm fine with that. How's the shooting on them? I tend to hear that their trigger and accuracy is amazing when tuned properly. Probably wouldn't carry a 1911 as a daily.

A shitty 1911 is gonna run poorly
A nice 1911 is gonna run amazing

I can't shoot them for shit but if you stick to higher end stuff you won't be disappointed

Have a reason for the poor shooting?

    On my end?

Just naturally shoot Glocks better, so I stick to those and call it a day....never really was interested in taking the time to adjusting to the 1911 grip, controls etc

I've owned 2 1911s and get irritated pretty quick on how poor I naturally handle them so I let them sit in a safe for awhile and then either trade or sell them away

    ...^^^... Interesting thoughts on the 1911 ... I don't shoot a .40 well ... but am OK with a 1911 for some reason ... makes no sense, I know.

Maybe it's because I got used to a Colt 1911 in the military and loved it ... it was worn out and super loose and never jammed.

9mm is my favorite to shoot ... but not the H/P of the .45 ... don't know enough about Glocks to form an opinion ... looking for a Sig .45 now.

So I'm guessing you've put a few rounds through a single action pistol as opposed to your DAO Glock? One thing I enjoy about both the 1911 and Glocks is the variety. The 1911 doesn't limit you to full size. Anywhere from a 3 to 6" barrel and frames that come in compact (Officers), standard and double stack. Personally, I have small to medium sized hands and my favorite is my 1911 commander series with a bobtail and slim grips that have a thumb/mag cut. For me comfort is key.

x2. 1911s are truly a case of you get what you pay for. A cheap one will make you wish you bought another glock, an "expensive" one will make you want to sell two glocks to fund another 1911.

I love my 1911s. I naturally shoot them better than Glocks. To me it's a classic design, and I enjoy getting them out for the same reasons I do a good old fashioned wheel gun. I also carry mine here and there. I like a full size frame with 4in barrel and slide.

Sighted in my 16" 6.8 upper this evening, well I sorta got it dialed in.
I got close at 25 yes and bumped back to 50 to reconfirm, my 2 shot group was good (First pic) so I bumped back to 70 yards and fired at another target, still close, so I set up at 100 to take a shot on a 4" steel target and no dice, tried a second shot, no dice, bumped back down to 50 and my group was good.
    Any ideas?
    image.jpg
Left 2 rounds were at 50, right 2 were at 70.

image.jpg The top 2 rounds are at 50 after shooting at the steel, low hit is from another shoot.

On a side note I'm pretty happy with how my savage 308 shoots with factory Remington Core lokt.

Without knowing what you were shooting the specific numbers will vary a little bit. If you run the ballistics for the Hornady 110 BTHP factory load with it zeroed at 25yds you would be 2.3" high at 100yds. Shooting at a 4" target center mass with perfect aim, conditions and technique would result in you missing by .3" over the top. If your windage is off in either direction or you aimed higher on the target the margin of error is even higher.

Wow, did I miss this in 1911 party or what?
If it's worth anything, I have a range officer that just can't miss a target with. So quality of a 1911 is definitely critical. With that said, it's not my only gun but definitely one of my favorites.

I have +50k rounds through mine, so I like that gun very well. As stated earlier an ill fitted 1911 is going to shoot like crap a well fitted and tuned gun is going to run like any mechanical assembly that is well cared for and properly tuned. That precision comes with a price.

The Glocks are fine guns, there is a reason why there are metric crapton of them as service pistols in LE dept world wide. They work well are easy to service and relatively inexpensive.

I carry my 1911, I also carry a S&W mod 19, it don't matter what the mag capacity is, you just learn to reload faster.

I shoot my Kimber 1911 .45 far better, than I do my Hk 40 and 9mm.

    My EDC is a 1911.

Mag capacity or 8+1 really isn't a downside in a carry gun, since most defensive shooting scenarios involve 3 or fewer shots. And it's not really an issue for casual plinking, either. I actually kind of like the lower cap for casual shooting, because it means I don't blow through ammo as fast, haha!

I really like mine. Very accurate and fun to shoot.

    This ^^^^

I've carried several different 1911 over the years, and they can be finicky. I'd recommend a lengthy range session with any new gun, firing 300-500 rounds to test its functionality, and to get used to how it handles. If there are no issues, carry it. I would caution anyone not to go too light on the trigger pull of a carry gun, esp a 1911's. The SA trigger of the 1911 is very unforgiving toward negligent discharges for those not accustom to the short SA pull. It's real easy to get yourself in trouble with a trigger pull that is only 1/8" long. My personal opinion, no defensive firearm should have a trigger pull weight less than 4lbs, perferably 5-6lbs.

Thanks for the info, I need to find a good ballistics calculator, the Winchester app I have on my phone doesn't have 6.8.
I was shooting American eagle 6.8 110 (I think) Gr.

    Need a hand here folks...

My granddad just gave me a JC Higgins Model 101.16, marked with 'Sears, Roebuck and Company' as a start to my home-grown gunsmithing as he put it, but needs the charging handle. He has a Springfield 87a (Stevens/Savage) that is the same gun, in immaculate condition. Obviously, he doesn't want to give me that one lol! I don't mind.
I've found that it is called many names but the same thing. It was made during WWII, or just before, most likely as well. A light refinish on the stock with a re-blue and it'll be brand new. The crown is in great shape! But I like the patina, except he may or may not have colored the receiver with a black Sharpie lol.

So where can I get a reliable resource to find a charging handle? I've ordered parts from Savage before for a shotgun (Stevens 350) without any issue. Will they have it? Numrich had a handle for an 87, but it looked NOTHING like the one on his 87a

    Thanks!
