Rough guideline only. Stability is based on bullet length, not weight. Solid copper and VLD bullets are quite a bit longer than the same weight lead core bullet and require faster twists. It's much better to go faster than slower for most applications. Many manufacturers are missing the boat by introducing "long range" rifles with the same old twist rate as introduced in the 40s and 50s.

Well, it came in really handy that I have a friend with access to heat treating capability, and also a press that a bunch of us used to stamp the flats to shape. We all went in on a die for the forming. It would have been a challenge without that. A lot of groups out there that hold build parties.
The bend at the top of the receiver where the bolt rides was a challenge. It's a sharp bend of small dimension. I had a little trouble with that. Pressing the barrel into the trunnion was also a challenge. Fortunately there is a LOT of info, including videos on the interwebs.
I had built an airplane, so the riveting was not a challenge for me.

So I bought a XD 9mm Mod.2 Tactical with a 5 inch barrel today. Didn't go with the stainless slide. I like the solid color. Can't wait to hit the range tomorrow!

Now I need a holster. Any recommendations on a holster for that length? Won't an XD holster work for the XD mod.2 as long as the length is right?

I also need a magazine pouch to carry two double stack mags, so suggest away.

My deer rifle is a 308. Yes, it's overkill for PA whitetail especially since there aren't many places that you can take a clean shot out to 150yds. But, I wanted something that I could also use for bear if I wanted to go out during that season. I also wanted something chambered in an extremely common caliber because my last hunting rifle was chambered in .35Rem and after looking to buy ammo online for an ENTIRE year and couldn't find it, I said fuck it and sold the rifle which paid for the majority of my 308. There are hundreds of offerings for factory loaded ammo from cheap plinking to match grade. That was important to me.

Is 308 the perfect round for everything? Nope, but it's the perfect round for what I'm looking to do.

I use these. A little more than an Alien Gear but more comfortable and they wick away sweat on hot days.

Thats why Iv'e never discredited the .308 round. It definitely has its place
That's why I've never discredited the 308 round. It definitely has its place in the Hunting community. Three days ago, a guy asked me the differences between the 6.5 and the 308 and that's what started all of this. But that's funny, you say shooting OUT to 150 yards, like that's a long distance.:boink:
Come on man I shoot in PA also. we shoot across the mountains out to 1500+ . With that said, we are in the Alleghenys, I guess there are parts of PA probably wouldn't be so mountainous.

Oh there are definitely places to shoot long range, but in PA you don't need to look long distances to find a deer.

I find the 308 more useful than the 6.5 creedmoor for most of my applications. For me the creedmoor is for a platform that limits OAL. Otherwise I want a 6.5/284 or bigger if hunting or shooting in high wind environment. If it has to be an AR style rifle, then the creedmoor would be my choice, but I'd rather have the 6mm creedmoor than the 6.5. I began using the 6.5X55 and 6.5/284 15-20 yrs ago, but never really sold out for the 6.5s. With bullet selection as great as it is now, the 6mms offer advantages for target shooting and the 7mm and .30 calibers offer advantages for hunting.

    It's ok. A 277 Wolverine (6.8 bullet, 5.56 case) is a better 5.56 variant. If you want a 25 caliber AR a 25x6.8 (257, 6.8 case) is a good choice.

I have zero interest in an ar platform (~45mm case anyway) but the 25 or 6.8 would be my #1 and #2 picks if i was gonna go that route. Seem like both have potential for deer out to 200 but they are both kinda pricey rounds. I dont understand the draw for the 300 blackout either since the 7.62x39 has been around doing the same thing for years and you can already get it in high capacity semi autos. And the .458 socom and the 50 Beowulf seem pretty novel also.
An ar10 would be kinda fun and cool to have but ar's as a whole really dont do anything for me, but it takes all kinds i guess.

In a long distance environment, the AR platform is almost a night and day difference over the conventional stock, The same way, as ugly as it is, the rhino reacts the same way in the handgun world.

Now if someone bought me a rhino i would have no problem carrying that thing around but i dont think id shell out $700 for one. Might consider it if they ever have a 50% off sale or somethin close, maybe some scratch and dent or somethin

Yeah, that would be nice, kind of like how Taurus has their Blem sales.
