I don't think I have purchased a new gun in 10 years. I always wait for tax time and after the xmas holidays to buy them used. unless it is something I want really bad.

Another thought for ur first handgun especially, is if u have a $500 budget do not buy a $500 gun. Since this will be ur first handgun, u should put 100-200 round down range to get a good feel for the gun and also it will help some muscle memory in the trigger pull department. U are also gonna need a holster of some sort because a hand gun u dont carry is more or less a paper weight (excluding range queens and those dedicated for huntin but those are the exceptions not the rule) just food for thought

I cannot imagine a situation where I would break a yeti. I've broken probably 3 or 4 cheap cooler hinges or handles, lost lids out of truck beds for a couple others. I don't want to be hundreds of miles from home without a way to get fish or game back home. Mine have been from the ocean to the mountains and it's one less piece of equipment I have to worry about breaking.

It amazes me when people slam Yetis. No one is forcing them down people's throats. When someone posts a $2,000 Nighthawk 1911, no one says "that's a dumb purchase - my Springfield shoots the same caliber and it was $500."

Whoa, slow down there skipper! nobody was slamming yetis. We're talking about all overpriced coolers , but it sounds like you need to be a little nicer to your coolers in general, (saying jokingly)

It seems like you want one BAD... Being all defensive... HaHa

In all honesty I found one that had two koozies in it floating in the bay (great bay, Dover NH) at my house. I removed the one I mounted on my boat that I bought from BJ's and replaced it with the Yeti. I have to say compared to any/all coolers I have used on the boat this thing crushes them all and those koozies... they are something else.

I had just purchased the Indel on the group buy to travel to NC & Back so I was not in the market for anything else.

I am sure there are a few knockoffs that work the same or better.

Handguns can be personal, what one likes others don't. How big your hands are is a factor as well as your overall size to be able to conceal. I would head out to shoot what friends have or rent a few to see what works for you. 9mm in a semi auto or .38/.357 in a wheel gun are pretty much accepted as a good balance of size, stopping power and ammo availability. There are plenty of solid carry guns out there but I have seen people get guns based only on recommendations only to find they don't like it and end up leaving it home.

So I have a new Glock 20 and the day off, but it's sleeting outside. Contemplating getting wet to try it out.

I wouldn't but that's because I hate the cold, especially when it's precipitating and cold

I bit the bullet and paid for a lane at an indoor range. It was busy! 150 trouble-free rounds. That's about all my hand could stand. Stout 10mm loads are snappy, even in a gen 4 with dual recoil spring.
