Thanks, it shoots really nice. Probably the best factory trigger I've experienced.

Alright... I recently got a Remington 700 .243 handed down to me from my grandfather, and I am trying to figure out what to do with it.
It has the original wood stock (the sling studs have stripped the original holes), and an old scope on it.
The action, barrel, etc is in excellent shape. I really can't decide what to do with it. Either I just re-scope it and call it done, or I do the works... new stock, scope, remove the iron sights.

I don't need another deer rifle, but I could have set it up for my wife and son to use.

What would you do if it were you.

Keep the original stuff on it and make it like your Granddad just walked out of the store with it. It's priceless.

I considered that, but the scope won't hold zero and the stock is warped enough it is contacting the barrel a good bit. It shouldn't make a huge difference accuracy wise, but if I ever turned it into a bench gun, the stock is a disqualifier...

Edit: From the looks of the rifling, I doubt this gun ever had more than a few hundred rounds through it. They look brand spanking new.

Then I would throw some Zeiss or something on it, glass bed with a comp stock, and a trigger job. Just keep the old parts.

A little question for any glock folks. I'm wondering if it's worth trading in a gen 3 glock 19 for a gen 4. Would it be worth it or am I being impulsive? I notice I like the mag release a lot more and the replaceable back straps.. but is that worth the "upgrade"?

They're emailing me a UPS label to have it shipped back to them, I decided to go ahead and just send it back as I assume they will go over the whole gun and I wouldn't mind having that done as I bought it used.

I wouldn't change a thing. Leave it the way your granddad wanted it. Shoot some deer or antelope with it here and there and when you're looking through that scope, you'll essentially be looking through his eyes. You can use it for bonding experiences with your son and eventually give it to him.

Also, you should send the scope back to the manufacturer and have them retrue it, then reinstall it.

Put one of the P80 lowers on it and it's a new gun. Also cheaper than trading it in!

One thing to consider - my Gen 3 slide finish is indestructible. My Gen 4 finish is a lot weaker and scratches easily. And I'm not alone. The tennifer protection is in the metal itself, and scratched slides don't mean rust, but it's something to consider. Glock made a running change to the exterior slide finish in the last couple years.

I can attest to that. My Polymer 80 compact frame is awesome. Only issue is my G19 holsters don't fit!

Glock stopped utilizing Tenifer in 2010 which means gen 3s could be either but regardless Tenifer is not the finish of the slide if I understand correctly but a metal hardening treatment done prior to final top coat finish
