You were told this by a cop, or told that "some cops" feel this way? Are you talking a few extra mags for EDC? Are we talking 2 extra mags or more than 2? What's your daily life like?

No idea. I've been asked why I carry a spare mag before too.
"uh, in case I have to reload...?"

Not sure why they think it's excessive. They all carry reloads. Why wouldn't we? Especially when you figure they're carrying 17-18 round duty pistols and we're usually carrying 6-8 round CCW's.

Alright, that is slightly more than I carry around with me, lol. Usually on my person I've got my Shield and a spare 8rd mag. But, I do keep a spare mag and a box or two of 50 in the truck, along with my 'truck gun' and two boxes of ammo for that.
So excessive is indeed a matter of opinion.

I did have the response of "Oh look you seem to have 5 mags on your vest is that excessive" he seemed to relax and have a sense of humor about the whole thing and send me on my way....

Damn! What is deemed excessive is certainly a matter of personal opinion. I carried a S&W .38 Special for years, and I only had 5 rounds. Moving forward with my next purchase, I only expect to keep a spare mag in the truck. 8+7, or perhaps 10+9 if I do Magguts mods.

In Va no known duty to inform law enforcement but if asked. I always inform when pulled over just for the ease of stress on the officer/Deputy or Trooper....

Most of the time here they will run serial numbers on the gun. He already knew I had a permit to carry as it comes up when they run my plates he asked if I had any weapons in the Truck I just smiled....

Me too. Seems like a common courtesy. My dad is a trooper and I know what their daily stress level can be, so I always make it a point to try and ease any concerns. Granted, I've only been pulled over twice, but roadblocks are pretty common since I live in a college town.

Same. I've only been pulled over a couple of times since I've had my CCW, but I always just hand them the card when I hand them my license. Maine doesn't have a duty to inform, but I do it anyway. Our cops are usually pretty laid back, so I'm not worried about them panicking when they realize that I'm carrying.

Colorado there's no duty to inform and the Officers I've spoke to generally do not care. It's easier to have your Licence and Registration ready by the time they walk up and not mention it, as it does not show up when they run your plate.
