All very safe topics for an internet forum, where everybody is accepting of other people's opinions and not at all confrontational.

Exactly, and if they get that way, mods boot them out of the area for going against the agreement. It's pretty simple.

 

PSA has the Ruger American 17rd for $250. Damn good deal IMO.

 

I don't see how if it's in an off topic area where members have to agree to the terms. If they don't like the terms, they simply don't enter, and if they do, it's "enter at your own risk" kind of situation. We've done this over on another forum and it works fine. When someone gets bh or tries to flame, they are simply extricated from the "off topic" area. There's really never any issues. I think we've had problems with less than a half dozen members in 11 years. Granted, there are less than 500,000 members, but it works as designed, there are probably 2-300 members in the "off-off topic" area and most have become pretty good acquaintances and in some case, friends.

There's a gun thread, a political jokes thread, a vice thread, funny pictures(no nudity or nipples or wet t-shirt sort of pics), 3 word stories, etc. No neo nazi crap or fundamental groups or pacts or cults or anything of that nature. It's very clean and respectable because everyone knows what the others have agreed to in the terms and conditions of that particular area of the forum. It simply works and everyone has a good time and nobody feels conflicted or controlled by anyone. There are 5 mods, including myself, that participate in the subject matter of the threads and we all just get along.

It can be done.

 

Given the amount of content the mods have to delete from threads on a regular basis, and the number of warnings they have to hand out about inappropriate behavior, and (most importantly) that a similar thread has been tried before and it imploded, I really don't think that it can, lol.
