Got it. When I was looking the other day they advertise cash price and non cash price so that may have changed. Ill have to look into it more. The setup I am looking at is not limited so hopefully I don't run into a bidding war. I will just go to the local dealer but if I can save $400 or so even with transfer fees included, hard to pass that up. But good looking out. I stumbled on it the other day after a chat at the shop.

.22 target shooting. Probably no more than 100 yards mostly. The part that I'm not sure about with the viper is it doesn't have an adjustable parallax

Tough call between the two. I think I would go for the one with the BDC reticle and standard turrets over the simple plex with target turrets. Those are both kind of an odd mix in that they don't really share any common features, so it's hard to compare them.
Are those your only choices? For target shooting, even with a 22, I'd try to find something with more of a ranging reticle. Even if it's just a mil dot.

Something like a Leupold Mark AR 3-9x40 Mil Dot is ideal for that application and right in the same price range as the Diamondback HP.

    https://swfa.com/leupold-3-9x40-mark-ar-mod-1-riflescope-2.html

There is a higher powered version as well, but not sure what your price range is.

I'd like to keep the price point around $400 or less. It will be sitting on a suppressed cz455.

I'm coming from near no experience with glass. Only thing I have is some cheap scope on a browning bl-22 that was gifted to me by my uncle. So really anything will be an upgrade. The only reason I kept looking at vortex is because everyone seems to rave about them and their warranty. So I guess I'm just another victim of marketing.

Vortex is great. Don't get me wrong. I have a Viper PST 2.5-10x32 and it has been nothing short of awesome for me. And the warranty is a great feature to have for sure. But don't let that prevent you from looking into other good brands. One of which is Leupold. The Mark AR was one of the first quality scopes I ever bought and it served me well until I moved on to some more expensive stuff.

I like just pointing newer people towards ranging style reticles because they can be used as designed if the shooter wants to learn it or you can just zero it and use it as a plain old crosshair. But at least you will always have the option of learning how to use your mil dot as opposed to being stuck with that lowly plex reticle :ballchain: which, to me, is more of a hunting thing.

But again, there is absolutely nothing wrong with either brand. It's just best to look at different options before settling on what you want.

Honestly, gunbroker is the best for the older, rarer guns. But you will pay the real value of the gun so not much for deals most of the time.

Pawn Shops around me are pretty craptastic. Over-priced, generally nothing worth while, and rarely negotiate. Ive had better luck just going to regular gun stores that have consignment or used sections. Usually decently priced and can sometimes find unique things. They dont seem to dig as deep to see if a gun is really that special unless told by the person trading it in. (ie might just list a Mosin as a 91/30 instead of as Hex bolt)

But really...establishing connections will get you the best guns and best deals. Keep checking with gun stores and telling them to call you if they get something unique in. Let friends who have guns know you are always looking to buy. Basically put it out there that you would buy guns and when it comes time to sell, that will be in peoples head.

Best scope for the money IMO. They have a awesome reticle, are rugged, and they track just as well as any of my Leupolds. They actually have way more elevation adjustment than a Leupold. I think 30 Mils plus 10 in the reticle. They are a 30mm tube and fairly large so may be more than what you want for a 22?

Here is the cheapest one, I like the side focus parallax which is $100 more tho.

They also make a 1-4 with illuminated center dot which is awesome on a AR platform

Pardon my ignorance but what is the advantage of a holographic sight over any of the other options?

For me I like to keep both eyes open as it allows me to see multiple targets and wipes out the blind side

I believe he was asking about holographic vs standard red dots.

Oops... well I guess he knows my thoughts on why I use them....:anonymous:

    Maybe this will help

    Red Dot vs. Holographic Sights

When it comes to sighting mechanisms for weapons, red dot and holographic sights are the popular choices. The differences between the two are not readily identifiable by just a simple side by side inspection and comparison. With a red dot, or reflex sight, you have a low power LED that produces the reticle, while a holographic sight uses a more powerful laser that bounces around to produce the holographic image of the reticle. The biggest impact of this difference is the duration of the battery life for the sight. As the holographic sight consumes more power, it understandably dies quicker compared to a red dot sight. It is always recommended to turn off your sight if you do not intend to use it for some time to avoid draining the battery.

The biggest advantage that holographic sights have over red dots, is its near immunity to parallax distortion. Parallax problems with red dot sights appear when the eye is not perfectly aligned with the sight, as in this case, the line that is drawn from the eye to the reticle and beyond is no longer parallel with the barrel. This problem is more pronounced as you increase the distance between the shooter and the target. The holographic reticle in a holographic sight is able to composite for this misalignment, thereby reducing errors due to parallax distortion, even at very long distances.

When it comes to disadvantages, there are also a few besides the reduced battery life stated above. Holographic sights are a little bit more complex compared to red dots sights. Due to this, holographic sights are a bit bulkier compared to red dot sights. Then there is the slight problem of temperature. Holographic sights are not as immune to temperature variations as red dot sights. So if you are going to a location which is too hot or too cold, then it may be better to carry a red dot sight instead of a holographic sight.
