    No kidding.

However, a good brand of duct tape should hold for a while, as long as it is put on dry.

Do you have anybody you trust to ship them off to out of state? From what I've read on Irma, it is expected to have sustained 180 mph winds, and basically set a new standard for a category 6 hurricane. If those speculations come true, this is going to blow houses over.

This could bite you in the ads later... but get some latex caulk from a hardware store. Around any holes except the door itself, caulk the shit out of them, and any hardware or power coming through to seal it. Do that soon so you can leave the door open to let it dry properly. Next on the door itself, use some string that isn't prone to break too easily, but is still small enough to tuck into the space between the frame and door, but outside the bolt to outline the door. Make sure to leave the ends long enough to easily grab them later and be able to pull hard. Put in all guns and ammo you want to keep in there and close/lock the door. Caulk the door shut but don't push the caulk in too deep around the bolt. The string acts as a rip cord later to either tear theough the caulk seal, or rip it off completely when things dry out again.

I don't really want to ship them. The pistols I'm going to secure with me. The rifles ill bag like the others have posted. Luckily, they aren't worth much, cheap rifles, so hopefully the bags will do the trick. You are right though, Irma looks like a dirty hooker thats about to OD on cocaine, that is gonna mess up your night.

that is a great idea on the caulking. well see what happens with the storm, hopefully ill just get the bands at my house.

Looking for opinions on a couple firearms (and not trying to start a shitstorm, I promise). A local store is having a sale and I'm in the market for a carry pistol. It's a S&W sale which is fine by me because I like a lot of their offerings. I'm pretty much discounting the Bodyguard 380, I think it will be way too small so that leaves me between a M&P compact and an M&P shield. Does the slight extra size of the compact make it much more difficult to conceal? I'm not an overly large guy, about 5'9" 180 lbs. I'm not new to guns but this would be my first gun purchase with the sole purpose of carrying.

A Shield can be a pocket gun pretty easily in khakis or in a jacket pocket. A M&P compact is a lot heavier and isn't really going to be a pocket gun. I slip my Shield into a pocket in a pocket holster often. I just sold my compact because if I'm going to carry a gun that wide/heavy, I might as well carry a full size. For hip carry, I think the Glock 19 with 16 rounds is about perfect. Or, wait for the new M&P 2.0 Compact that just leaked - looks like it might be very close to G19 size with a 16 round capacity as well.

It really depends what feels comfortable on you and how it feels when you shoot it. Personally, I carry a G26 which wont be a pocket gun but would be a good concealer. Point being, the shield is a single stack and an awesome concealer but the compact is a little bigger than the G26. I did find this link that compares a G26 to a Shield and a few others so you can see size wise.

    https://www.bienenpodcast.info/marks/m/m-and-p-shield-vs-glock-26/

I am 5'11'' and 210lbs and I carry my G26 AIWB and it conceals just fine. I dont think you would have issues with the Shield but I dont know too much about the Compact. So long winded story short, go shoot both and see how they feel and ask the shop if they have holsters so you can see how they feel on you. I would really take your time when trying to see how they conceal and dont feel awkward trying to conceal the gun in front of them. If they want to stop you from running out the store with it they will ;)

Nothing wrong with a S&W revolver for concealed carry! I'm not in love with any of the M&P automatics however.

Unfortunately, I live in MA so Glocks are hard to come by, let alone being able to get a lot of models to do a side by side comparison. Your comment about carrying is exactly what I was looking for. I will get a pocket holster and carry that way so the thinner profile I think will be better. I'm leaning toward the shield but wanted to make sure I'm not overlooking something with the compact.
I'm comfortable shooting both, I actually don't mind the thinner profile and smaller frame. I have small hands so the shield feels comfortable. The bodyguard feels too small which is primarily why I'm discounting it. The shop I'm going to is really good and will work with me on the holster and make sure I'm happy and comfortable. They're a low pressure shop which is good (they even have a range and will usually have a demo model that you can shoot).
MA problems, Glocks are tough to get. Not impossible, but difficult. The trigger for the S&W is a little funky but managable and seems like can be easily modified and cleaned up.
Not a fan of revolvers. My old man carries one but I prefer pistols.

Thanks for all the input guys, hopefully I'll have something to post up in the 'lets see what you bought' thread today or tomorrow!

I would see if I can find the two of them at a range and shoot them both because the sizes are close enough together for the likeness of how it shoots to be more important

That's the plan. I'm just new to concealment. I don't plan to have either of them be my range gun, but I will obviously spend a fair amount of time at the range with whatever I buy to make sure I'm familiar and comfortable with it.

I should rephrase, we have MA compliant models but, if you want a good selection, you're looking for at used models. If you know exactly what model you want, that's fine, you can hold out until one pops up for sale but it's tough if you're browsing and trying to figure out which one you like best.
