I cannot yet justify spending the $130 for their top tier rings...or any other manufacturer's high end rings...but the other 2 are so close in price i'm wondering if there's a drastic difference between the 2

Will you miss the $30? And how much do you believe in buy once cry once? I agree, 130 is a bit much for anything but the absolute highest tier necessary.

And thats the problem, the gun community is constantly giving ground to the anti guns, at some point there is no more ground to give. We need to hit them with the same tactics they use on us, boycotts, etc.

Bump stocks are a perfect example, I personally think they're stupid but I don't belive they should be banned, but how many gun owners do you know that agree with having them banned, more than a few. They always seem to think "if we just give the anti freedom crowd this one sacrificial lamb they'll leave the rest of our guns alone", how's that working out for us?

    No ground to give.

Me too.. this thread has been detrimental to my wallet.

I'm no expert but I'm using these rings on my Tikka t3xlite 308 and my savage model 10. They have been awesome. Id get the lowest set you can get away with personally.

What range/what do you plan on shooting with that 308?

I had a strike eagle for awhile. Only got rid of it cause it was on a backup rig and I let my brother put it on his rig when he was tight on money and then he ended up buying it off me. I liked it for what it was.

I generally like my optics as close to the rail (or barrel on a bolt gun) as I can get while still keeping a couple mm's of gap. usually means taking out a caliper to measure things since a lot of manufactures tend to not be exactly the same.

As for rings...I have nicer ones, I have mid tier ones, and I have fairly cheap ones. Ive only ever had issues with 1 pair (ill explain in a bit) and honestly the biggest differences have just been in fit and finish. Ive yet to have a single pair of rings impact accuracy. I do go for rings that have two screws per side (or three) and in the vertical position (ie a "cap") and not horizontal screws. Ive also got some one piece mounts that work fine too. A couple of the Nikon p-223 mounts to be exact.

The only rings ive had issue were a burris cheap set that were one of those "works on either 1" or 30mm tubes!" With the funky insert. They were just junk and hard to get setup and just didn't fit well at all. But thye were like 15 bucks and only used cause I needed a set right now type deal

Right now I can't really stretch it's legs but me and a business partner are in the FFL process and we're also hunting for land to build a range and I'd like to get out to the 500 mark eventually

I def want lowest I can get...I recently shot another AR10 with a Sparc II on the low+spacer mount which puts it at 21mm height and i felt like it was just a bit low...my strikefire is at 40 and ruins my cheek weld because it's too high

I guess with rings it's really just guess and get it close and if you don't like them...buy a different height

I measured and then gave my best educated guess both times. Decide on an optic then rings.

Out to 500 i personally like having some magnification. 3-9 or 4-12 would be great on that. I love my athlon scope, especially for what i paid!

If the rings are traditional height short or medium, they probably won’t work on an AR. I’d look at a basic cantilever mount if I were you. The AR Stoner one is awesome for a basic setup. Also Warne, Burris PEPR, etc.

I prefer a good QD setup, usually I end up with an American Defense mount for $100+, but the ones I noted above can be found for <$50.

If you want to use traditional Picatinny rings you will need high or extra high or rings noted as AR height.

The problem is the current optic is on a cantilever mount that puts center at 40mm and that's too high for my cheek weld

And the Strike Eagle will be great, but big. Bigger than it looks in the pics. Glass is ok. I like the 1-x scopes for ARs a lot. I have a 1-4x PST and I love it on ARs. Same concept.

    https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1...y-style-with-integral-rings-ar-15-matte-black

0.71” of height plus 15mm to the centerline of your scope would make this one about 33mm from receiver to scope center. Should work great.

That Strikefire mount is high for some reason. I have the same style on a cheap Walther red dot and I agree it’s high. I don’t know why they’re that way.

I just looked through a red dot (holosun) for the first time without corrective lenses and damn, I knew I had astigmatism (any red dot I’ve used hasn’t been a clean dot) but I didn’t realize how much the corrective lenses clean it up, without my glasses the dot on my 403C is covering ~4” at 10 yards, so essentially a 40 MOA dot, put my glasses on and it instantly clears up to a slightly ragged normal size dot.
