I would say go with the one with the features you like the most, I have the 403C on my SBR, magpul MBUS as well, love the red dot, slight starburst with glasses, major starburst without, if I flip up the rear MBUS it helps with the starburst without glasses, I haven’t tried it with my glasses yet.
I didn’t realize how much my astigmatism effected the dot until one night I grabbed the rifle to go outside without the time to put on my glasses.

I'm going to look at a private sale used Ruger American. I've never bought a used rifle before. What should I look for when inspecting it?

Guns are made to shoot thousands if not tens of thousands of rounds. Its rare for a bolt action to see those kinds of numbers. I suppose it had a fast twist rate and shot really high velocity rounds the barrel could be shot out, but i dont think that is a real concern. Id google "ruger american problems" and see what might be wrong and look for that and rust, other than that it should be fine

Make sure all the serial numbers and markings are legible. Ensure it is unloaded and cycle the firing mechanism and ensure the safety works. Remove the bolt and hold towards a light and make sure the inside of the barrel looks good.

That series is a pretty low end rifle, know it is light but depending on the cal. Will kick pretty good. The barrels are very lightweight and do not like heat so look for any discoloration in the finish.

It’s a .308, less than a year old. Used for target shooting.

I’d love a Socom 16 in 308/7.62, but I doubt I could convince the wife I need a $1900 Rifle for deer hunting. I’m looking at this Ruger+vortex scope+bipod for $400, which is doable.

Seems like a great deal to me. I emailed and texted today. No response. I've never done armslist before. If it's anything like craigslist, I should probably expect a lot of ghosting on deals, right?

I have had good luck with armslist out here in NV. I would still try and set a meet in a public place though. I always carry and normally bring a buddy on gun deals though! Normally I lock my cash and wallet in the safe in the truck then go get it after the deal is made.

My M1A is a safe queen. I have a gunsite scout as my primary hunting rifle with the XS rails for a traditional scope mount option maintaining the irons also. I have an M40 for anything at distance but would not want to hump it on a hunt.

I've really only sold/traded pistols using Armslist, but just about every time I've been by myself and the other party has been by themselves. Helps that you have to do the deal at a ffl since private handgun sales have to be run through a check (which I'm 100% on board with.)

In my state it is still legal to do a private sale as long as you take the buyers DL # and info. I am also in support of needing to do an FFL transfer when selling a firearm however.

Rifles you can legally sell without a background check. I still do it since once it's out of my hands I don't want it in my name.

It's kind of a pain since there's no form for it to go from me to the buyer, so you need the dealer to take it in on trade, then the buyer "buys" it from the dealer.

Yep, our state has a form and as long as you have the info and keep that you are protected. I don't actually sell much in the way of firearms but it sure does make it nice to buy them off the books. To each his own. Here in Sparks they even setup a "safe zone" at the local police department designed for private gun sales. I would never use it as I am sure you are on camera but hey it is there.

What state do you live in? They actually have a firearms registry there?
