Sorry, piston. I was talking shotguns on another forum yesterday afternoon and apparently some of it bled over.

    Beats lightning bolts. :notsure:

I actually like that one better than the AR. Because our truck is smaller than a full-size truck and still a ton of aftermarket for it , good call!

Probably because of the pistol grip and forend

I had wanted to get him the 590m when I saw that coming out, but he wanted the 870

Well the 870 is definitely the better choice in my opinion. Looks tacticool!

Your boyfriend should of listened to you.

I don’t have anything against 870’s, they used to be great guns, and they still are if you can get an older one. I was going to buy one a couple of years ago, until I started reading how far downhill the the quality of the 870’s, and Remington in general, has gone in recent years.

Mossberg 500, 590, or 590m or all better options then any 870 made in recent years, IMO.

I was planning on getting one and heard good things. What's gone wrong with it? Anything I can catch with an inspection before buying?

First I started having issues with the gun not going bang when you press the trigger. The primers on the shells had dimples in them so the firing pin was making contact and having light strikes. Threw the same shell in a different shotgun and it went off no problem so I dont think it was bad ammo. Then the forend (part that you pump to chamber the next round in case I have the term wrong) is plastic and literally cracked in half while I was on a duck hunt. The worst part was I had two ducks literally swimming in my decoy spread and I couldnt do anything except laugh to myself.... The worst part is the forend the two arms that go from there back into the receiver are all a single assembly so I cant replace just the plastic part that cracked. At this point it will probably just as expensive to repair it as it would be to replace it (which I definitely wont be doing). All in all I had less than 100 rounds through it before it completely crapped out on me.

I know it's cruel, but

That's how crap like that always happens, too.

Ouch. Ok, I'll probably just wait for a good 500 sale.

Its ok I was laughing too. I have since upgraded to a "proper" shotgun that wont leave me stranded. The worst part is that I had spent the night in the bed of my truck with snow on the ground and 10 degree temps to get out on the pond that day :pout:

I did have one with the same crap that you are explaining. Ended up finding one and eBay for like $24. I knew they ran all Lucy goosy but I never had a firing pin issue myself

Only problem I’ve ever had with my 870 was the extractor wearing and not ejecting properly. Did some research and it’s a common issue on this firearms. Upgraded to a Non-MIM machined extractor and 0 problems since

Maybe somewhere, LOL but yes they are incredibly effective at removing hornets nest and such. Good out to like 40 yards.
