Yea I love my Mosin. I'd look into picking up an AK 74 though. It's more expensive than a Mosin, but Ammo is cheaper, lighter to carry, and it wont tear off your shoulder if you shoot it all day.

I'm with Aaron too. My g22 is just too big to ccw. Thats why I'm getting a g27 next week cuz I'll be getting my ccw this year. But if you like bigger then a g23 should be perfect for you. And also, no tac light on your ccw firearm. Itll make it much more challenging and uncomfortable

Anyone recommend a good shotgun for home defense and for just fun in the desert? Was looking into an 870 tactical. Itll be my first shotgun. Only requirement I have is I highly highly prefer pistol grip. Looking to budget $4-600 +/- for this. Opinions?

870 is a great first shotgun for just about any need. Inexpensive. Reliable. Aftermarket support. Parts availability. Can't go wrong really.

Why? Just 'cause? IMO you're better off just getting a KSG rather than doing a bullpup kit on an 870.

Mesa Tactical makes great adapters for almost all major shot guns out there that all your shotgun to accept milspec AR-15 buffer tubes, stocks and grips.

I loves me some Saiga 12 but I wouldn't recommend it for an only weapon for self defense. They can be more finicky than a 870 and when lives are on the line that's the last thing you want. They make wonderful open class 3-gun rigs but I wouldn't deploy one to save my life unless a LOT of my other weapons went down first. They're more expensive and less intuitive to run for the average user too. But I don't recommend a shotgun for primary lines of home defense either so that's an entire other conversation I suppose.

from watching review videos I'd prefer to VEPR to the Saiga, but I love my 870. The VEPR just looks like it'll be easier to lug around from room to room, since my AK is easier to handle than my 870.

The shotgun would certainly not be my only weapon or primary either. So its more of just to spice of the variety and add a shotgun to the lineup.

Sounds like ill be looking more into the 870. Always liked them alot anyways. Aaron, you have pics of your different shotguns? Just looking for visual comparisons.

Recommendations on places to purchase from? The place I normally shop at where I get LE pricing does not carry the 870 and all their other shotguns are over $1600 and mostly LE only restricted models. I need CA legal.

If your LE shop doesn't offer an 870 Police model then you need to find another LE shop. ;)

On a pistol grip shotgun the 870 is the way to go. On the mossberg you have to break your grip to work the saftey. Option 2 is Winchester 1300/fn police, same shit...

My lightweight/summer CCW pistol setups don't have a light. My winter/heavier clothing CCW is a G19 w/TLR-1 and I don't feel like it's too big/heavy/bulky. If I was wearing a t-shirt in the summer I don't know that it would be my first choice although I've done it before. I also carry a nice EDC flashlight clipped in a back pocket so I've got plenty of lights. Sometimes it's just nice to have it on the handgun if you have to deploy rapidly and getting it AND your light secured isn't an option.

San Bernardino County is ccw friendly. Was just waiting until I could satisfy the residency requirement since I just moved here in October.
