Check the serial # on that Sub; I had to send mine back for some warranty work. Apparently they had bad heat treating on a batch of barrels.

When I walk into a LGS, I notice I if the store is clean, bright, and the employees are friendly. Just a smile and hello is nice. I worked at a gun store/indoor range during college (early to mid 1990’s) and we’d spend about half an hour after closing wiping the glass counters/displays, vacuuming, and making sure the items on the shelves were neat and in order.

We need new people to share our sport/passion so picking out customers who want to learn and buy a firearm is important - I guess being kind and patient with them because it seems a lot less young people are introduced to shooting at an earlier age nowadays. Their knowledge may be based on TV or media which is a problem in my opinion.

Having a variety of firearms is also nice. I like all types of guns, from single shot rifles to semi autos, and I enjoy looking and buying different types and calibers. No need for a huge inventory, just a few of each type to satisfy most Americans. Maybe cater to the popular shooting sports in your neck of the woods, trap/skeet, bird hunting, deer/elk, varmints, IDPA, 3 Gun, maybe one youth size rifle and shotgun like the Henry lever action and Mossberg .410 pump. You never know when or if a youngster grows up and becomes a collector and returns to buy more.

Just my 2 cents, good luck and thanks for your effort and hard work to further our passion!

I want good deals on LE trade and consignment stuff from my LGS. Don’t try to compete with the internet on new guns.

3D printed M-lok vertical grip printed in ABS plastic by a coworker. Will sand, stipple, and give it a coat of Krylon. Not bad for $3 worth of plastic.

Oh, another thing that should be obvious, but treat women equally. If a female comes in by herself, don't ask what kind of gun she's looking for for her husband. If a couple comes in and says they are there to get her something, she's the customer not the guy, talk to her more.

Sounds stupid but it happens way more than it should.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned but might have missed it. Politics. I know guns are obviously a hot political topic, but nothing will turn off someone who is curious about guns but might be on the fence politically more than having aggressive political posters/signs up. That means no Obama/Hillary targets and the like. Information about gun rights and firearm safety absolutely. Don't turn off potential buyers or miss a chance to educate someone.

    This^
I was in a LGS a few months ago and the owner pointed to some packaging and said "look, the industry is not doing itself any favors marketing stuff like this. We're going to stop carrying this company's stuff because it doesn't do us any favors long-term bringing new shooters into the fold."

What about toughening up the inside of the scabbard at the end? Or even just a piece of a ratty tshirt in the bottom of it so the teeth cut that up instead of the scabbard. Just gotta make sure when you pull the shotgun out nothing sticks to the end of the barrel.

Agreed. I miss the days when people possessed the common decency not to discuss politics.

I'd prop it up on the wall next to my nightstand, with a Tshirt covering it to keep the dust off of it.

How about a leather scabbard designed to be used with a horse.

You probably already know this, but gun counts for safes are highly optimistic. In my experience, their capacity is half the “Up To” claimed amount. Stack-On is entry-level, and okay for security, as long as you don’t expect flood or fire.
