Looking for a red dot for my Sig P320 for duty use, what options are close to the form factor of these options but have good battery life, are decently rugged, and aren’t $500 like the RMR?

Policy, Taser has a laser and policy is written as to maximize the difference between lethal and less lethal (hence cross draw, and a different retention style holster for the taser)

I've had good luck with Burris FF3, Vortex Venom, and Leupold.
Of the 3 I prefer the Leupold as it's bigger and is always on. Although sometimes in low light I find it pretty bright.

Since you have a Sig why not try their red dot? It's similar in size to the Leupold.

I really like my Vortex Viper. I only have about 500 rounds with it but no issues.

How was the battery life on the Leupold? I don’t expect the same battery life as my Holosun but I don’t want to be swapping batteries once a month either.
Any complaints with the Venom? Vortex’s warranty is top notch but I’m not 100% sure if either of the vortex options will work with the holster.

I’m going to look into them, I have heard mixed reviews on Sig optics but haven’t been listening close enough to know which are good and which aren’t or if they were just isolated incidents.

The post you quoted said red dot, his initial post was about a laser.

Awesome! How do you like the long slide? The only complaint I have with my M&P vs my full size P320 (besides the trigger) is that my TLR-1 sticks out so much more on the M&P. Granted a slight stick out is preferable IMO as you’re less likely to take the firearm out of battery if you are pressing the muzzle against a target.

Have not had the Leupold but 6'ish months. Used it on an AR and now on a revolver.
No complaints on the Venom, been on my 5" M&P for a couple years. Friend had a Venom and it was bad after a few rounds. They fixed it but he ditched it.
On a side note: Had a reload round come apart and ruin the frame of the M&P. Got a new to me frame and will try it out tomorrow. Not sure if it was a double charge or just a bad case.

I’m fine with 6+ months on a battery, it’s not bad considering the size/weight.
Good to know, thanks for the info.

Damn, sounds like you didn’t get injured so that’s a plus, sucks your frame was ruined though.

I like the long slide a lot. It's very accurate. I do wish the light was a touch shorter but it's not bad how it is.

Fun fact about the M&P series, long slides drop into full size frames without issue. So if you want a 5" gun, a CORE slide is a very available option. Got a buddy who's planning on a 2 slide setup, 1 compensator/red dot CORE slide and a Dawson sighted factory 5" 2.0 slide on his 2.0. So, if you'd like a flush fit and red dot, there is a way...

I almost bought a long slide when I got mine but $350 LE trade in with night sights and 3 mags was too good to pass up, I may have to add one to the collection.

Random fact, I know one of the building inspectors in your town.

Holy shit, I didn’t know that, I’m surprised it didn’t pop up when I was researching dropping a 9mm barrel in my 40. I may have to do that.

Yeah they're rather like glocks in that respect. Inside a given frame size they're like Legos.

Speaking of glocks, how easy is it to go through GSSF for the discount? I'm considering a 10mm after pick up a Garand and a glock or two might be on the list afterwards
