Does anyone own a Mossberg MVP? They’ve had my attention for the past couple of years. I’m curious about what you like or don’t like about it. In videos the bolt operation doesn’t look very smooth, so I’m curious what you have to say about that too.

 

What was the thing you hated most about it?

 

I have a 308 and I like it. only thing I dont like is the barrel is heavy so when you shoulder carry across your back on atv it wants to slip down. but other than that its a good gun. Ive killed a nice 8pt buck with it.

 

What version of the MVP do you have and what is the barrel profile like?

 

http://www.mossberg.com/category/series/mvp-series/mvp-scout/ heavy barrel, light trigger from the factory but is adjustable. I just left it what it was from the factory. First time shooting it, it was so light trigger I jumped when I pulled the trigger. But with the muzzle break and pad doesnt really kick too bad.

 

A friend of mine has one in 223, I'm not a fan personally. The bolt is absolutely terrible, trigger is meh and for me anyway the stock didnt extend far enough back.

Shoots ok though

 

Thanks for the info. I’ve always wanted to do a 308 bolt action scout-like rifle with both scope and irons. I have an early model Remington 700 sps that I’ve been considering using as a basis for the build.

 

Ruger American Compact ftmfw. And under $400. Then if u want u can buy the magpul stock for it

 

Perhaps if I could find a used one. Price is a little steep IMHO.

 

thats why I went with mossber mvp. plus it takes DPMS AR10 mags ruger only takes their mags.
