Why not buy a pre-Remingtonn Marlin?

I usually do all my buying and selling on snipershide but its more geared to high end long range stuff.

    I've got 3 lever guns; a Pre-64 (.32 spl)& a Post-64 Winchester (30-30) and a Pre-Remington Marlin (.35)
The Winchesters point faster, but the Marlin's more accurate.
I've also got an old Marlin 81 .22 that's my squirrel gun that is a very accurate plinker and will eat anything you feed it in short, long, or long rifle.
    :notsure:

Edit- I've even used the .22 to gather kindling when we're winter camping.

I don’t have any major complaints about marlin besides the trigger mechanism in my 3030. I just like the overall feel and experience of the Winchester

They were bought some years ago, and the quality changed (not for the good.)

    Unfortunately.

A Marlin 39A was the first rifle I ever shot as a kid. The old ones were great guns.

Yeah, that's why I said Pre-Remington, which is still somehow bad. I don't get it...

Barrels are stamped either JM or Rem. I've seen reviews of the newest manufactured Marlins and they fixed a lot of issues but the pre-Rem's still better it seems.

I'm getting a lever action to basically hit the range before deer season and then shoot one deer per year and that's it really.

If you are getting a lever action, look at Henry's.

    Slick-smooth action, and accurate.

I just wish Henry would make a few gate load models and not only the tube load.

    I agree.

I shoot mine in competition, so the tube load is not that big of an issue.

In the field, gate load would be nicer.

But the Henry actions are slick! So fun to shoot!
