The process is simpler than they make it sound. It's basically 5 parts. Application(notarized, my local UPS did it for 1 dollar), proof of age, proof of citizenship, proof of training, and a club membership. For instance, I submitted with my application a copy of my passport (age and citizenship), my IL CCL (training), and my membership info for the Garand Collectors Association (club, $20 annual). The training can be pretty open as long as it includes live fire IIRC. Googling CMP affiliated clubs is a good idea for club membership, but I like GCA as a simple solution, because they forward their membership details over to the CMP and make things very easy.

Edit: Once done properly, they will FedEx the rifle straight to your home unless you live in CT. It's a sweet deal.

    I'd stay away from aluminum.

Try Diversified Machine, Muted machine works, Totality Industries, Superior Precision Concepts....

I have the rdb and I love it. It's heavy, but very handy and suppresses well.

Just a quick note on the notary, I know its only $1 but your local credit union probably does it for free, mine does even if you aren't a member of the CU.

    Why?

Rimfire is OK for rimfire, otherwise not good.
If you use aluminum for rimfire you have to clean by hand and not use “the dip” or any other “harsh” (AKA effective) cleaning methods.
Aluminum is OK for rimfire tube (not baffles) otherwise stay away.

I missed the part that they were talking about 22's. That makes sense. I was planning on getting a rifle kit from them and cleaning it w/ lots of elbow grease if it ever needed it.

Aluminum baffles will not last in a rifle suppressor, and an aluminum tube will not be strong enough, specially when it gets hot.

Unless you shoot a lot of cast bullets, lead isn't a problem in center fire cans.

Depends on too many variables, aluminum cans are fine for longer barrels and calibers w/ less pressure at the muzzle. I doubt most people shoot enough to wear out an aluminum very quickly and the ones that do will be spending the $ on high end cans anyway.

The laws of physics aren't variable. You could also form 1 a 2 liter coke bottle if you wanted to....

9mm or 45acp? Sure. Aluminum will probably work fine for you.

My point is that there are lots of sources for quality materials these days. No need to sacrifice durability.

Personally, I don't think I'll ever build a form 1 rifle can. I'd rather have inconnel, stellite, or 300 maraging. But many guys have put freeze plug cans on their SBRs and are perfectly happy.....

Sure the volume of gas stays the same but the pressure does lessen when theres more volume for the gas to expand into, such as the extra barrel length. It also give the gasses more time to slow down, you're right, physics aren't variable.

Cool, doesn't mean other people won't enjoy drilling out their own can and/or getting it in under a year. Especially if its going on something that isn't going to see hard use like a range toy then who cares if its end of the world proof? I have a 223 bolt gun that an aluminum can would be perfect for.

Sure, but pressure is only half the equation. Flame and hot gas erosion of the aluminum is still going to be an issue. I'd at least use a SS blast baffle.

Not sure if have a favorite. Glock I like a lot because very reliable and common, worked right out of the box. The Ruger LCPs I had to send back and took a while to get them to work without malfunction. But they're easier for conceal and carry.

Sounds good. Been interested in RDB because it's bulpupp and takes AR-15 mags. Downside is that it's not as common as AR or AK, so servicing it might be more difficult. Also, newer product so not as tested as the old AR and AK. But if it suppresses well that's well fitting because the shorter bulpupp won't get very long barrel with the suppressor.

Traded for this today, I’m excited to shoot it but will probably end up selling it (or maybe my XDS).

It was jamming. Some of the Ruger mags may have been bad. They changed some part on the gun as well, and I polished the feed ramp on the barrel. Also had to use a particular ammo, Winchester target rounds, and now it seems to work.

Sounds familiar. We recently bought a Kimber Micro 9 that had FTL, FTF and brass ejection problems. Kimber fixed it pretty quick but I bought a new mag and it's having similar problems. Pretty disappointing.
