I say this bluntly but please don't take it personally.

Spending under ~150 on an optic for any gun that shoots real bullets is a waste, the exception to this rule is the Bushnell TRS-25 red dot, it's not great but it is fairly reliable.
If you must buy a cheap scope get a vortex, the glass quality may not be the same as a similarly priced Nikon but the warranty will replace the optic 10x over with no $ out of pocket, and trust me, at the sub $150 price point you will replace it due to failure if you shoot more than 1 box of ammo/year.

I'll step off the soap box now.

This for sure. Even if its just to go on a range queen its worth spending at least that much for an optic. Can always check out the used market to find lightly used quality gear for cheaper.

Definitely spend a little more money to get into a decent quality piece of glass

Find a used Vortex and even if it's busted they'll honor the warranty

I’ll co-sign Vortex. I have two of the scopes and love them both. Only time I can tell the difference between them and something that costs $1500+ Is at max power and even then it’s still damn good!

That very much depends on the model. I had the bottom tier 1-4 and it compared to the strike eagle 1-6 i have now is night and day. The base 1-4 looks like the lense is smeared with vasoline if you compare them side by side.

It was still a good optic but there is definitely a difference in the quality of the glass. As you go up in $$

Side note after looking through some upper tier schmidt & bender, NF and zeiss glass my low end stuff (vortex, athlon and primary arms) has been ruined for me lol

We all like to look through $3000 scopes but the average person can't/ won't afford one so we stick around the $500 and up range and live with it and shoot damn well with them and if your just starting out a $150 scope is a helluva upgrade from a $50 scope

I used my cousins nightforce on his ruger 6.5CM bolt gun and yes the glass was nicer than my Vortex, and it had a much larger zoom range it wouldn’t be worth the extra $$ to me.
I’d rather drop the money on a thermal or NV Clip on.
Hell until I got my vortex all we had ever had in my family was cheap scopes (sub $100 for rimfire, $200 nikons for centerfire, all 3-9) and they worked OK for the up to 200 yards that we shot.

Think I'll do a little dove and quail hunting this year. I've had this Browning 625 Citori for about 5 years now and haven't used it for anything more than crazy quail and skeet shoots. Need to start getting my money's worth out of it...

O i absolutely agree. I have a primary arms 4-16x44 on my 308 that ive taken out to 900 yards and sub $400 vortex glass on everything else. I just like to  iver them like most people.

Yep same for me, just can't afford tier 1 glass and i wouldn't be doing much w/ it that my current glass can't already do just fine.
