I would go broke saving money.

It seems like a great deal if you buy three firearms a year. I am not sure he can sustain that business model for long.

 

Anyone know anything about these. Good or bad. Will be my first 80 glock build but not my first 80 percent build.

 

I have a few targets from this guy. Not cheap but good quality and construction.

My local gun store knows what items I want to buy or if th hey find something interesting, I get notified.

Plus they do almost everything except full blow gunsmithing. I have a 1911 gunsmith for the "real pistols " and another for that "new crap".

To me, this wholesale place would be like trying to establish a personal relationship with Costco.

 

I need to go look at it today or tomorrow and see what I think. I love Sig firearms but as with them and FN fucking mags are not cheap...

Is this a store or a home FFL?

THere was a home FFL guy near me who did pretty much the same thing. I know when i talked to him he said it was doing well for him. I think he charged $250 a year though. But he said most people would buy 1 or 2 guns a year thinking they would buy more so he ended up ahead in that sense. He also did the only available 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month type thing. Said having the membership stuff was a bit easier paperwork for him too as he could have most of it pre filled out so it would be quick in and out.

But life and new laws (state) made him quit

 

This guy is definitely small and local, he works a regular job during the day and has (had) evening hours for the shop behind his house.
He had good pricing last time I went in and checked.

I figure that if I did 6-7 transfers per year it would be worth it before the “wholesale cost” savings, but I don’t think wholesale would be very much cheaper than street price buying 1-3 at a time.

I wish the local shops would do that, I transferred 3 lowers and a rifle within the last month and a half at the local “gun” (pawn) shop and it cost ~$140.

What do you guys think of 6.5 Grendel for deer hunting? Too small? Just right?

On the fence about picking up a bolt gun in that caliber.

 

I believe the energy numbers are similar to .243 Winchester, .243 is a well respected deer cartridge that I would use comfortably for all white tail except for the largest freaks, even then it would likely take them, I would just prefer a .308 or other .30 cal/higher energy caliber.

 

It’s just under a 257 Roberts in terms of velocity and energy at 100 yards. I have a ton of long guns but my daily deer gun is a 257 Roberts and it kills them just as dead as anything else does. I see you are in Michigan and you have larger bodied deer, but people have been killing deer with similar calibers for a long time. Shot placement is always important no matter what you are shooting. I just got to the point where I don’t want to deal with unnecessary recoil and my Bob takes down what I need it too.

 

Curious why you wouldn't just go 6.5 Creedmoor since you're looking at a bolt gun. To me the whole thing about 6.5 Grendel is to get some longer range on an AR-15 platform.

 

I also have the 6.5 Creedmoor and it’s a nice caliber as well. If recoil is an issue also look at the 6.5 Swede or 260 Remington. They are low recoil and will drop a deer. The Creedmoor seems to be the next big thing (at least for now) and ammo should be more readily available. Either way, you have plenty of good options.

 

Found a good deal on a Grendel bolt gun was curious if it was even worth the trouble.

Creedmoor definitely has my interest.
