It is one of those things I wish I'd been told when I bought my first handgun. Buy a Glock 19MOS, between the aftermarket support and history of reliability you cannot go wrong, and you'll get used to the brick grip soon enough.

I’m leaning against MOS on my Glock purchases (as well as the S&W system) because the MOS system isn’t as strong as having a slide milled for a specific optic as well as introducing 2 extra screws to the component.
But MOS does make sense for non-duty applications or for R&D purposes.

Full disclosure: I’m going to get a CORE pistol from S&W because it’s the configuration I want, I’m a little nervous about it though.

I agree with the options/compatibility aspect of the Glock 17/19 though.

You have to do 2 atf forms, 1 ceo (i think that's what it's called), send a copy to the sheriff of your county per every tax stamp. Also when traveling you have to notify all states in advance that you will have those NFA items. This makes just building a pistol much easier and cheaper

CLEO sign off was eliminated via 41F (I think that’s what a member said the final designation was) so it’s just a notification sent to CLEO.
The 5320.20 form (travel intention) is required for ATF items except for suppressors.

I did some digging, and I can get a Safariland 6390 for a P07 with a Surefire X300, but without the optic support. For those who have one, is there a part of the ALS system that runs near the top where the optic goes? I'm considering buying one and clearancing the holster where it would interfere with the optic but I can't tell where the ALS system runs inside the holster to be sure that I can cut the necessary parts off of the holster without otherwise interfering with the retention.

I’ll get you photos when I get home tonight, I have 3 non red dot ALS holsters and 1 red dot (the 6390 RDS) and I’ll get quality photos to compare the systems in them.

Yes, you can fill them out so that the travel dates are 1 day short of a year.

The modification would remove the pivot point of the ALS on both the 6 series and 7 series non-RDS holsters.
This is my 6390 RDS for M&P with TLR-1, the pivot point (green) is very low (below the ejection port) and on the side (There's one on the opposite side as well).
    RDS holster exterior.jpg
And the interior view. The red is the RDS hood, the blue is solid kydex, and the green is again an approximation of the pivot point.

    This is the 6 series (6360 I believe) ALS/SLS for M&P with TLR-1
Exterior (green is again pivot point)
    Safari 6 series.jpg

And the interior, notice the ALS assembly is one piece in this holster moving the pivot (attachment) point to well above the ejection port and just in front of the rear sight.

And for posterity, the 7 series, this one is for a Sig P320 with no light.

And the exterior with the P320 installed to show how far up the slide the mount point is.

Damn, that rules out the modification path for me. Thanks!

    Unrelated:
Finally sewed them on, trying to figure out how to add a couple more underneath now.

I had the same concerns with the Glock mos and was pointed in this direction :

    http://www.chpws.com/product/holosun-glock-mos-adapter-plate-v3

    7461D654-0FF3-45D8-AA4F-6E931642401A.jpg

Plate is thinner , better posts to secure the optic , very tight fit with no gaps , Trijicon would stay on with no screws when placed into it .Edit : I did use a sealing plate as well

I agree that a milled slide has pontential to be better than the mos setup , assuming it’s well executed

Nice! I wasn’t aware of those adapter plates, I’ll have to pick one up for my Glock 40 MOS.

This is what I used with my non mos G41. Lot of people don't know these exist.
Remove rear sight and slide into dovetail.
I have ran the crap out of this thing and it hasnt came loose or moved at all.
Sight will of course sit a little higher.

Any idea what these little pews are? Found a handful of them last weekend. They don’t appear to be shot shells as I scraped some of the blue coating off, and there appears to be a slug underneath.

‘CCI 9mm with ‘N’ ‘R’’ stamped as well.
