I'm thinking about buying a bunch of extinguishers and painting them flat black , OD green, etc. and selling them as "tacticool". Could make a killing!

With ammunition getting harder and harder to find and the prices skyrocketing I have decided to reconsider my normal methods for something more simple.

And I’m certainly running downstairs towards the fight if he finds the keys to my Tacoma!

This is what we taught people all the time. Don’t go looking let them come to you. You don’t want to give up your element of surprise. 99.9 percent of people aren’t trained on how to properly room clear as it is, add the stress of the event and this equals bad results. A good way to prove this is have someone hide in a part of a room with a tennis ball and you walk in with a tennis ball, don’t throw it till you have a clear sight. Almost everytime the person that is hunkered down in the room has the advantage depending on where they hide.

I agree. Key is to have a plan like having your family meet at the mailbox if a fire breaks out. But you need to go over that on a regular basis or your kids will forget it. I want to keep it light in here too. Thanks

While I get what your saying, you need to factor that all those activities occur out doors. Inside where the sound will be confined within 2 hall way walls a foot from you either side and a ceiling and floor only a few feet away, it will be much louder.

Cool, my responses are not an attempt to downplay what you're saying Bill.
I know you're a very serious guy. And trust me, this subject is as serious to me as it is to you.
I am pretty sure I'd be able to do whatever is required of me to protect my wife from physical harm.
Being careless in the process as you say would be unforgiving for any of us.

Yes Sir. the real problem is no two situations are alike, My first one I was at home with my Dad. I yelled at him to stay in place and then it was just me and the POS. (with my Dad yelling at me to shoot his ass). The second was just me and my Wife, She knew to get 911 on the line and hide until I came back for Her.

Shot plenty in confined spaces doing house clearing. With and without hearing pro, it’s not that bad for a NEED to have it. This is also a very different scenario. How many shots do you guys plan on shooting?! Without or without protection, just make sure it’s incorporated into your training plan. If you don’t have one, then you’re better off holding the covers over your head until the dude goes away. Otherwise do what you practice and what’s comfortable.

My college buddy was an 11B (well, he still is, he ETS’s this month) and when he was on his deployment he rarely wore Ear pro, during training he rarely wore ear pro, dumb MF’er shot 50 cals without ear pro and has substantial hearing loss at 23-24.

Also, just because you experience auditory exclusion doesn’t mean that your hearing isn’t being damaged. Hearing damage is a physical thing like a muscle strain.

10-4 I lost most of my hearing in the Army and then some more as a Mechanic for over 30+ years. I have $7,000.00 hearing aids that are getting where they need to be updated. It Sucks. I wear plugs and ear muffs when I go shooting.

I'm 58 and have had my fair share of exposure to loud noises so I had to look up why it's never bothered me, I found this:

A throwback to caveman days, we carry that "fight or flight" ability with us today, though instead of saber-toothed tigers, we're more inclined to be dodging cars crossing the street. Even so, the ability to instantaneously determine when to fight and when to flee is actually a hormonal response. Hormones are chemicals that are produced by the body. We have lots of them: estrogen, testosterone, adrenaline, FSH, insulin – the body's system produces hormones all day every day.

For example, when you perceive a threat to yourself or others your body chemistry changes which causes the adrenal glands to produce adrenaline that increases your heart rate, dilates the pupils and prepares you to fight or hit the bricks. The body recognizes danger and shifts you into the fight or flight mode. (Most of the time we wisely flee these days from potential dangers. We've gotten smarter, learned from the mistakes made by our predecessors and no longer have to worry about becoming lunch for a saber-toothed tiger.)

A recently published study indicates that the human ear responds in a similar fashion to the fight or flight hormonal reaction that body experiences when faced with danger, stress or anxiety. In other words, when the ears are exposed to loud noise (stress to our hearing), the body chemistry actually changes to protect the delicate mechanism that we use to hear the world around us.

The study focused on a specific hormone receptor produced by the brain called corticotropin-releasing factor, CRF for short. CRF is produced by a gland inside the brain called the hypothalamus. It's a tiny member of the body's endocrine system, responsible for producing all those hormones, enzymes, peptides and other molecules that keep the body operating in good health.

This study demonstrates for the first time that the cochlea – a small, snail-shaped organ that's part of the hearing system, alerts the brain to produce CRF to protect itself when exposed to loud noise. You don't have to think about it – it just happens, just as the fight or flight reaction kicks in whenever we're faced with perceived danger or stress.
