Yeah I get that but he said he is full time paid.

Even volunteers running lights is stupid.

Oh look, my company is being bought out again. Already saying new name and logo in 2018. This will be the 4th rebranding after buyout for me. Hopefully they will just burn the Euro vans instead of painting them.

You'll quickly learn that it is not even remotely close to the militia. I went into this career for the same reason an d have been thoroughly disappointed in that aspect.

That being said, the job is amazing and I will never do anything else. It is way more rewarding than the military was.

Thanks to the recommendations in here I've got 2 pair if Haix boots coming tomorrow. 1 pair of duty boots and 1 pair of leather bunker boots.I would have never even noticed them but I tried them on and fell in love. I highly recommend them.

I think that might depend on the station. I don't expect it to be like the military at all, this is just another way to serve and it's a bonus that it is my local community and I will get to know some of the guys in my area.

My point is you said you are looking for that same comradery feeling from the military. You won't even come close. Station doesn't matter, it's just not the same mindset.

Full time Firefighter here. Volunteer /POC 13 years, 12 years at my current department. Was a Paramedic on ambulance for 15 years then transfered to a Truck Company.

Our department is 9 Stations, 9 Engines, 3 Trucks, 7Ambulances, and 3 BC's. 205 personal, population serving 215,000 + people. 2 hospitals in our town as well.

We use Narcan daily with our overdoses on Fentanyl or Heroin.
Cops carry it too, as well as every emergency vehicle we have.

Love the job, wouldnt do anything else in the world. I am just a firefighter now but started testing for Lieutenant this year. Was a Lieutenant on volunteer department prior to going full time.

    Nice to meet everyone.

My wife showed me this and I figured I'd share it here. I'd like to see them do a blood draw on the detective to make sure he wasn't anything. The patient in question wasn't even the cause of the accident.

Reminds me of the firefighter incident a few months ago.

I run with multiple departments in tightly-knit communities. In Maine it is allowed. Where I live, the departments rely on a lot of volunteer/call-force responders. Often times I could be first to a scene. It is simply to request the right of way, but doesn't give any special permissions.

I work full-time at one department and do per diem/call-force in the community I live in. I can't say I 100% disagree with you. It can be dangerous. The law here states that an emergency vehicle must operate code 1 (flow of traffic) or code 3 (lights and sirens) They do not recognize code 2 (just lights), though personal vehicles cannot and should not have sirens. There are plenty of times where I shut them off while I am responding like coming to an intersection or congested areas. Sometimes I don't use them at all. I like to think that my judgement is adequate. I like to think everyone in fire/EMS has good judgment... I do however like having them when I am on the side of a busy street at the scene. They also double as off-road lights, so that's cool.

Having that judgment is good. But the amount of guy I've seen ripping down the road full speed with lights going is insane. Pushing people through an intersection so they can go to the stomach pain call is gonna get someone killed.

Agreed - that's poor judgement. They are doing it for the wrong reasons.

I was thinking about starting a paramedic program this November. Does anybody have any tips, recommendations, or suggestions?

Is there any grant money out there that anybody knows about that could help offset the cost?

Around here they charge 6-7k a student for a paramedic class.

Same price for doing it online and only meeting once a week.
