I went on a fire call last night. Structure fire, pole barn, but the guy lived in his camper trailer parked inside it. He was in it at the time, and didn't make it. The shitty part about it is he was a friend of mine. Sucks.

Sorry for your loss brother. That’s the one thing that sucks about public safety, eventually you’re going to go to someone you know.

I've been on plenty of fire calls to people I know, just first time someone I know didn't make it. That is one thing that kind of sucks about being on a volunteer department in a small community, I know most of the people we go to help. Also part of the reason I stick mostly to fire calls. I do go on rescue calls if I think they will need help with extrication or something, but heart attacks and such I leave to the rescue crew.

Been working since 8am Monday (01/07) and we’ve run 2 cardiac arrests back-to-back (both did not make it) and multiple other ALS calls. Moral and supplies are running low. I can’t wait to get off at 8am Tuesday (01/08).

Our volunteer rescue squad got a $20,000 donation a couple of weeks ago, and plan to use the money to get a power stretcher.

My goal today was to go camping by that didn’t happen since I got 3 hours of sleep during the shift. Just going to have to go next week now.

Woke up to sad news this morning, one county over (the county I live in currently and used to work in), lost a well known medic to suicide.
It’s becoming all too common place in this profession and if you feel like you need help, reach out!

So I'm posting in here today with a heavy heart. I think I've lost the edge. I'm a Scott air-pak tech. So my world revolves around fire departments all the time. I'm also a volunteer ff in my town. Iife has happened recently.. house issues, busy at work and about to have a baby boy here next month. I'm thinking about turning in my pager. I haven't been on a call in awhile because of remodeling my house and being out of town. I did have quite a few bad calls and maybe that's what is bothering me. Part of me feels obligated to stay in because of my profession. Another part of me is having a hard time having the same motivation I did when I first started. Any advice?
