    9 years total paid fire fighter, 5 in New England, 4 at my current department in Florida. Credentialed as a medic 6 months ago (only for the money), (plus we don't transport so not that bad)

    I'm thinking about heading west, Colorado Utah area. Which is a stupid decision because I make a lot of money in my department and the retirement is rediculous good. Would be stupid to leave. But I am so drawn to go out there =(

    Chesapeake is pretty nice. I was stationed in Norfolk for three years, so I've been all around there, va beach, Chesapeake, Hampton roads, etc.

    Not currently a firefighter, but I'm enrolled in school. Got a handful of certs and am trying to land on a forestry service hot shot crew somewhere out here in California. Or with cal-fire. I'm about to enroll in the EMT program this fall.

    @gainman I just moved from central VA to UT near the CO border a few months ago.

    It's beautiful out here: for me the pay cut was well worth it for the lifestyle. Definitely different that riding the engine and being the 5 min medic: we run 4-7 hour backcountry calls routinely (longest one I've had so far was 12 hours from tones to back in quarters on a snowmobile accident... in the middle of a snow storm).

    Come on out and visit, but don't blame me when you end up staying.

    Stationed on Camp Lejeune, NC. Volunteer as a firefighter in my offtime at the Rhodestown VFD. Only been doing it since the beginning of the year but it's been a great experience.

    @Chesapeaketaco I was just in Chesapeake this past weekend visiting family. The wife is from there and I'm from Newport News/Yorktown area.
