I just heard about this situation and I know it sounds bad but I was waiting for this to happen somewhere in the states. Luckily our LE officers respond to all medical calls so 80% of the time we have a cop or 2 on scene with us just for safety reasons but most other cities dont do that. Do I see FF's and EMT's carrying firearms or tazers in the future?...its very possible!!....but being a FF do I want to?....no not really, thats what LE is for. I pray that these 4 make it out safe.

    Yeah,
Where I live, we have the sheriff, city and campus police, county and city fire departments, and of course hospital ambulances. I would like to see officers and deputies respond to medical calls more often. (Including car accidents, heart attacks, falls, ect). They can at least calm the person down.

As I understand it, they only respond if they have some more medical training than most of the LEO's(Not many..) and if it is absolutely necessary for the patient to have care ASAP, and if the LEO is in close distance.

Not exactly related to what you are talking about.. but just thought I would put that out there.

Regarding firefighters carrying tazers, or firearms I don't think that should/could happen. If they are going into a fire, its a huge risk of the tazer or firearm going off.

    EMT's are a different story I think.

FreddieMac spokesman Brad German confirmed the incident is at a foreclosed property. The house is being “prepped” for sale, but it is not on the market at this time.
At the time of foreclosure, there was a renter, though German said he does not know whether the renter is still in the house.

what the heck does this ^^^ have to do with the news story?

Why do people feel that they need to fuck with Fire Fighters? People who do that job typically have the biggest hearts for humans. I mean the put their lives on the line almost daily for random strangers and hardly ever get any real 'Thanks' for what they do.

Then you get dick fucks like this holding them hostage. Grrrrrr..

Sorry for the rant. My life was saved by a nameless fire fighter when I was a child and I never got to thank him. Things like this really piss me off.

Oh so they dont even respond to vehicle accidents? I thought all LE responded to those for things like accident investigations and traffic control.

Yeah I know what your saying about guns on a FF that is fighting a fire but they obviously wouldnt take in it with them and would take it off when they put their bunker gear on. But I'm hoping it never gets to the point where Fire and EMS need to be armed. I know some cities FF's wear bullet proof vests.

Just read the update and the 4 FF's are fine with just minor injuries and the perp is dead! Sounds like SWAT went in and took him out but 1 cop got shot but his wound wasnt life threatening.

im watching the news right now. this stuff just makes me so mad, these guys risks their lives to save others yet people still do this. its not even like they are armed to protect themselves...
the news was saying he wanted his electricity back and other utilities turned back on which they think is part of the reason he did this.

I thought all LE responded to those for things like accident investigations and traffic control.
I take that back.. But in response to a accident, I don't think LEO's respond in any code (Lights or anything).
    I'll check up on that..

cities FF's wear bullet proof vests

It is probably up to the persons preference. Part of that could wanting to build a relationship with citizens.. Like if the police are holding a picnic in a dangerous part of town, they would try to look "nice and inviting" by not wearing a vest, or maybe even having a weapon.

I don't think a FF could wear a vest and be fully operational in a fire. (Just to much weight, not to mention he might not fit under his protection gear.)

but that still does not explain why the news report included this:

Anyone know who FreddieMac is? I saw that in the story also..

My opinion on why they mentioned it is because they are looking at a possibility of why he did this.. Someone who has their property forclosed is much more likely to be under stress..

FreddieMac = Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation.

and the report says there is a renter in the home...not the property owner. the fact that the home may be in forclosure has zero to do with the hostage story.

Maybe there's a different news source you can use that doesn't mention that and you can be happy.

maybe reporters could show some journalistic professionalism and report facts that are relevant.
