yea i used to have that wilco tire gate.. i liked how it carried the tire but was a huge pain to open and close.. the setup they used sagged really bad when you opened it so when you went to close you had to actually pick it up some to get it back closed to put the pins back in.. plus the pins didn't fit very well. was just a big pain. i never opened it that much either but i figured since i was building this to my specs i might as well give it a try.. haven't really seen anyone do a self latching tire carrier thus far.

The painful truth emerges once again. :(

I can't wait to be able to drive it far enough to show you!

You definitely know my pain. :D I was told that if you have a race vehicle, expect to spend far more time under it than in it. It's been amazingly consistent in that way.

I have new-to-me front fenders and a front axle arriving today. Tomorrow I've got to replace a steering linkage and rebuild the inner CV on the passenger side, flip the lower uniball housing on the driver's side, either glass or replace the passenger side fender and bumper endcap, and take it for a spin to make sure it tracks straight before heading to a local event on Sunday.

After all that I'm going to redo the brake system and convert it to hydroboost from the manual brakes I currently have. I needed to pull the power booster to fit the secondary shock hoop.

It's gonna be really nice when I can just hop in the truck and go somewhere without having to plan for it weeks in advance!

alright.. so i finally got to mount up the tire carrier i've been working on.. still have a few small details to finish up later, such as the license plate light and handle/release for the latches.

to the best of my knowledge its pretty much a one of a kind setup being as though it uses actual latches to close just like a door or tailgate. everything lined up perfectly and latches like its factory... :D

    yup...

my old wilco tire gate was supported on two bushing type things and sagged really badly when opened from the weight of the tire. however my setup dosnt drop at all when opened....
