Hey all, I have a 2010 sr5 with the 2.7 m/t. Recently rodents got in and shredded the firewall insulation. Does anyone know if the engine will need to be pulled to replace? Trying to decide if it’s worth an insurance claim or not.

Welcome to TW. Sorry to hear about your rodent problem. Pulling an engine to replace the insulation sounds very expensive. I'd first be thinking about how to rid and keep the rats from coming back. No doubt they left their calling card (rat piss) that will continue to attrack other rodents. So I'd be looking at way to eliminate that too. The loss of firewall insulation could be recouped or compensated for by adding some sound deadening/heat barrier system on and around the floorboad and footwell area.

    Did they shred any wiring?

Good luck with your situation. BTW-check the cabin filter and the fan/blower housing.

I've had the same issue with a marmot and have changed this. You do not need to pull the engine. But you will have to trim the pad as it's installed before the brake master cylinder, or something in that area.
