Hey guys, I have 2020 TRD Off-road that I’m finally looking to get new tires and wheels for. I’d rather not get a lift just yet and have been looking and the right wheel/tire combo that’ll give me some decent capability overlanding.

Right now I’m planning on getting the Method NV wheel with a 265/75/16 BFG KO2. This seems like a popular configuration and I like the way it looks. Any idea if there’s any issues rubbing or any tips when looking at other configurations?

    I appreciate it in advance!

Personally I would do a lift before going bigger tires . Most people here don’t have issues with bigger tires . But there is always that chance especially if your going to do off-roading since your losing some clearance .and you might end up needing a re-gear since your running bigger tires .

I honestly doubt OP will need a re-gear. Really only becomes a concern once you're getting into the 35in tire realm.

OP, with that, offset, your cab mount, UCAs, pinch weld, plastic liners, and other stuff in the wheel well will be a bigger concern for rubbing than getting a lift. I think there are a lot of people that run the size tire you're looking at with no rubbing, granted I don't know if they could say that if they're really doing any amount of off-roading.

    Lots, straight from the factory.
I run that exact tire size on stock wheels and have had no issues rubbing. I drive the shit out of this truck and take it on some pretty primitive 4x4 trails. Never rubbed once.
That said, I don’t know what the offset of those wheels are. That could change the rubbing issues.

I am running on 265-75-16 KO2s.. clear all way around, up and down, not even close to rubbing. NV 0 offset.. nice.

They're not much bigger than stock so regearing and trimming shouldn't* be an issue. A family member did this on a 2nd gen without issues.

Look up the offset and backspacing of that wheel. I thought I wouldn't rub going to that tire size + new wheels but I sure as hell did.
I have I think 4.53BS and -12 offset, even rubbed a little when I did lift my truck.

IMO each truck is so different. I’m running 5100’s all around 2” front lift , rear 1.5” deaver aal. After numerous alignments never was satisfied. Up graded to spc control arms. Wouldn’t change a thing. I’m also on Stock oem off-road wheels with 265/75/16 Yokohama x-at. I’m not saying you need them but you just might

Here's my experience...I have a 2017 TRD-OR long bed that I bought new. One year after I bought it, I changed my stock tires over to the slightly larger sized, Toyo Open Country MT's (265/75/16's) because I do some off-roading on some rugged forest service roads to get to my fishing holes, and I love the aggressive looks it gives my truck...its also my daily driver too. I did not lift or level my truck either and I had zero issues with the larger sized Toyo's. The following year AFTER installing the Toyo's, I upgraded my stock suspension by going with the Icon Stage-3 complete suspension system which did level my Tacoma and also added about 2 inches of lift overall. I do not think you will have any issues at all.

You do not need to regear when going with tires that are an inch bigger, please dont spread misinformation.

You will be fine, just remember ko2s come in E load only in that size, if that matters to you. Also, they might "touch" your front mudflaps. Mine "touches" only on drivers side.

Definitely not the best advice... the stock tires are one of the greatest limitations of these trucks from the factory when you start really off-roading. You really should hit the limit of these tires before anything else. With stock suspension and nicer tires, you can do quite a bit with these trucks.

Agree. I got no lift and 265/70/17 ATs and my truck goes anywhere i need it to go. Obviously i dont rock crawl or anything , its our only vehicle. So many guys think that lift is needed to go into the bush, completely false.

Those pictures are making me want to sell my open country ATs and get MTs. Very nice looking set up!

When ever you change tire size from the original size to another there will be a direct effect on power and drivability

BFG's are too heavy, and have dated technology
Nothing wrong with them, but we have better options

Falken Wildpeak AT3W (lighter look great)
Cooper AT3 4S (Lightest and damn good)

I have the Falkens they are total awesome, I have freinds who have the cooper the coopers rock... don't look like much but damn they kill it off-road. Also, lightness/weight is HUGE when doing tires... the lighter it is the better MPG/less wear and tear/ and more responsive it will be

Rims for me are just looks... I dont care for looks I care about performance. The new Trail/700 series Methods have the fancy internal bead lock deal... those would be what I would get but I will destroy my stock rims then replace as needed (why replace if its not broken)

You are gunna drives this truck on the road 99.9% of the time... don't turn your daily into some rock crawler. Change the fluids often, get sliders/under carriage armor (aluminum to save on weight) pay for good gas and drive it a lot

I did the whole off-road your daily driver thing... it gets expensive quick
Armor, lightest tires you can get, a good spare, gas, oil, and drive it

Ha, actually i do know my stuff. If you are advising to regear for 265/75/16s than you have got a lot of things to learn.
