Decided to do first oil change. Myself at 5000m. Bought new Toyota yzzg2 filter. Filter wrench too big for filter on truck. Tried water pump pliers, installed too tight at factory! Using mirror, factory filter was 90915 50003. Instead of buying filter wrenches I will only use 1 time, just drained oil, and refilled with 0/20 Mobil 1 syn.
I will let the dealer handle it at the 10000 mile.
    Beware.

I think the filter comes off easier when cold.

If you damaged the filter body, you may want to change it. The filter has to handle oil pressure in it and the housing can split even when dented. I have seen it several times.

I think I remember a bit of a production to get the first filter off mine too. I think I remember having to crush the filter, grab it with 2 pairs of vice grips, and twist with a pry bar between them. Or something like that.... it was almost 9 years ago.

I just let the dealer handle all the initial maintenance. It's free, for the first 30k, iirc. At least it was for me, and I didn't get the extended warranty crap, either.

It does help to have the correct tools, though.

I have a three finger claw that easily removes any spin on filter.

If you have correct tools, half of the job is done.

Only half? I'd say more like 3/4+ of the job is done.

Some people like to work harder, not smarter.

They use trained gorillas to install the filter at the factory. Mine was bitch even with the correct tools.

No, no, the OP is having technical difficulties removing the oil filter cap, he's simply asking for help, he already knows it's best to replace it at 5k. :D

Is that why you let the dealer do your dirty work?

I agree, this whole post is weird.

When the work is free, yes. Once that runs out though, oil changes are on me. Maybe. Probably. I now have 3 vehicles to keep up on maintenance. Out of shear laziness I may just focus on my Tacoma, and leave my daily driver 4Runner and the wife's Corolla to the shop down the street.
