Why do I carry so much? Because I've used it! Stopped for fender benders up to a lady ejected at 80mph that was essentially DOA - coded her for probably 40 minutes til ALS arrived and we called her.

When I get back, I'm adding some IV fluids (back, I used it) and maybe an airway or cric kit.

I keep a basic trauma kit in my bedbox with some add ons like SAMI splints, collar, blow bag and a lot of compression bandages. I am not an EMT (start that this summer) but I've had this since 2007 and its worth it for the peice of mind IMHO. There are few worse feelings that rolling up on an accident and having nothing but the shirt on your back to help with until EMS arrives.

I carry a Firs Responder Medical Bag. Has more stuff than a basic first aide kit. I am also a certified First Responder, so that would explain the medical bag. I would like to get one with a small O2 tank in it. I also carry because of my daughters and to assist others in need of help, medical or not.

I built my own medical kit. Just took a plastic container and placed all kinds of bandages (gauze, band aids, butterfly, etc.), cpr pocket mask, medications such as tylonol, epi pen, a few splinting pieces, and much more. I put them all in ziplock baggies to keep them clean as well.

The first aid kit lives in the field kitchen kit, so it goes out on weekends and trips. Normally there is a roll of paper towels and tie down rope in the truck. My wife is a MD so if we see an event, we stop and render aid if possible. Luckily, this hasn't happened yet.

I carry a small sports first aid kit. Was free so why not.

I wouldn't feel comfortable carrying any more than what I know how to use.

I'm also building a small but out/survival kit to keep in the truck. Simple things like a couple of changes of clothes, and a blanket, etc. Nothing too serious, like a Zombie Apocalypse survival kit.

Good samaritan laws are for protecting you from being sued and hesitating to act to someone in an emergency for fear of being sued. It protects you if you make a mistake in treating someone (untrained personell). Unless you are certified, then you are expected to act within your scope of practice.

After a friend put an axe through his foot last 4th of July - three hrs from medial help - I learned to keep a First Aid kit in the truck. Luckily, I had one packed in my camping gear! I recommend everyone keep at least a basic kit.

Also learned how to rally race the taco that day. ;)

Bring stuff you've got expertise to use. If you're worried about needing it - get extra training. The knowledge is more essential than the supplies.

    My two cents.
