No problem. Sucks that I'm the first M/T guy with an issue but I'm happy to pass along the information incase it can help someone else.

I still am very happy with this truck. Power is more than adequate and coming from 3 4cylinder Toyota's before this one it feels like a lot of power!

Well the temperature finally dropped back down in the single digits and the clutch sticking is back again. Damn!

I will open a case directly with Toyota and take it back to the dealer this coming week. It is supposed to be -10 to 5 degrees for the lows each morning this week so maybe they can trouble shoot it for me. There has been many morning in the 20 degree range with no sticking so it would appear that this issue shows up when it is below 15 or so.

I will keep this thread alive inn case this is not an isolated issue.

Most likely the grease on the throw out bearing guide is gelling in the cold and causing this. I have seen it happen in medium and heavy duty trucks before.

Would a different quality grease help?

My 2005 has always done the same when it gets below 0F. Hasn't caused any problems besides a little slow returning when it happens.

Usually about 15 mornings a year around Boulder.

Thanks. Interesting that this happened on a second gen as well. My second gen did not have this problem.

What the hell is an accumulator?

On the Tacoma it would require pulling the transmission to apply a different grease and that might cause some warranty issues.

Not if I make Toyota pull it under Warranty and apply a different grease. Do you know what greases would have the best cold resistance to gelling?

Sub'ed. Sounds like a faulty slave cylinder. Sorry about that OP. Should be a easy fix though

My truck has always done this, really slow to come up when below 0. The clutch pedal slaps the bottom of my shoe. It's so sluggish at -30 you can just about let go of the clutch pedal and get a smooth takeoff, although each gear change after that is like dancing for a blind choreographer.

It's not the grease on the TOB, that's for sure. When I took it apart there was none left. Still does it now.

Is that on your 2007 4 cylinder? I had the same truck and never had clutch issues to -25.

Does anyone know what the accumulator looks like? And where it is located?

Yep. I never considered it an issue to worry about. Just slow down a bit until the truck gets warmer and everything still works ok. Pedal goes down without a problem, just taps the bottom of my foot on the way up if I'm not paying attention; it's when the oil in the tranny has turned into molasses and it needs double-clutching to go down gears that it's a pain. My Hondas did the same thing so I didn't think much of it. The first few shifts when it's under -25F and I only gave the truck a couple minutes to warm up, yeah it was really slow like I mentioned earlier. Warm the truck up for 10 minutes and it'll never give trouble.

I always thought the accumulator was to stop the clutch from grenading by coming up too quick during fast shifts, but don't take my word for it. Any time you got oil going through an orifice calibrated for summer temperature, when things get cold and thick it's gonna flow slower until it gets warmed up again

So far the coldest morning I've experienced in my truck is about 25º and it is indeed somewhat sluggish. After a few minutes of driving, the issue goes away so I didn't really worry about it. I suppose I would need colder temperatures to really determine if its an issue or not.

so far, URD throwout bearing kit(sleeve), weathertechs, 285/70/17's on Ion 17x9 and OME 885s and Dakars and nitro sports. BHLM
My 05 6 speed did the same thing. We had a few mornings -20 last year and it would stick on the bottom for a second every time I shifted all the way to work. Seems like the breaking point was about 10 above. Below that I had the sticking issue. Every straight shift I ever drove done this at very cold temps.

Thanks to all who have replied and had this same issue on other model tacomas. Like I said this is the first time that any of my four Toyotas have had this issue. My two previous Tacomas both had mornings down to -25 with no issue. I will still work with the dealer to try and figure out why.

I wonder if a block heater would be enough to keep things from getting stiff? I run a block heater on my Duramax all winter long.

 to block heaters. Ran them on cars and trucks when I lived in Montana

They work well especially on a Diesel. I'm not sure it would heat enough to help the sticky clutch. It all depends on where the sticky part is.
