Here’s a side by side, with, without.
Mine came with the camper when I bought it. Working on a basket/rack set up for it. Gotta button up some leaks, but stoked to have it.

Do you guys have any suggestions on how to fix a leaking topper by yourself?
Mine came with a Glasstite topper that was on it since new but the seals between the topper and bed have been chewed/pulled out by the previous owners dog so water gets in. I don't have the land or garage space to build a topper rig of any sort. I was thinking of removing 2 clamps on one side, loosening the 2 on the other and trying to manually lift it and place some blocks in between while putting on a new gasket. My fear is the whole thing sliding off.

I used a pair of folding metal saw horses and blocks to hold my cap off bedrails while replacing cheap foam tape with a double beaded rubber cap seal.

The Wildernest's and flippacs are both super rare now a days; I wouldn't be too picky, and I'd just buy it, because you may not find another reasonably priced flippac in the near future, or ever.

Took mine off for a bit when I broke the back glass. Put it back on as soon as I could afford to replace it. Way better with the shell.

Hello all. I am also looking for a bed topper and am interested in finding one that offers good ventilation for hotter climates. Would be great to find a topper with windows that open on the side to provide a cross breeze, but not have the entire side of the topper completely covered in glass to reduce the greenhouse effect. I plan on using it for short camping trips (1-2 days) and sleep in the bed of my truck, but am hoping to find a setup that will make it comfortable when it is 100+ degrees in the summer.

Also, how well has everyone's topper been at keeping out rain? I understand that no matter what topper you get, there will always need to be some work put in to make it water tight for using the bed to sleep in.

My truck shell is water tight due to having all of the windows seals replaced and the shell mounted correctly with the rubber gaskets installed by Campway’s in San Jose, CA. I’ve had water leakage in the past from worn out window seals.

Concerning ventilation, you can install a fan by cutting a hole in the roof of the truck shell and mounting a Fantastic Fan. Another idea is to bring a generator, an air conditioner, and run the air conditioner ducting into your truck shell. Someone else might come up with a better suggestion.

You have to buy a new or used truck shell with windoors installed already. I don’t think they’re available aftermarket from the manufacturer.

I like the Outback from Snugtops, just wish they made one for first gens. I really like the tailgate door, and you can get it optioned with a center sliding window on each side windoor.

I've been eyeballing the Caravan truck shells: https://caravancampershells.com/our-selection/

I like the design and options offered for their shells. I wander if the interior being metal will have condensation from moisture though. I did notice that they offer to install a small fan to aerate the interior and keep dust out.

I see shells all around me but they’re for rangers, colorados and frontiers. Do any of these fit without being too short/too long or without looking terrible?

I think it’s going to be a test for fit kind of deal. I have an 02 xtra cab and just picked up a leer 122 6x5 and it’s just about 2-3 inches shorter in length and the cab end sits wider than the cab.
