Great thread, it's encouraging to see folks do this type of work/repair. I especially like the work in post #20, it's sort of artsy freehand fabrication stuff, the type of work I enjoy when not under pressure to rapidly complete.

Now that being said I'm doing a box frame fab right now on a northeast (NY/PA) 2002 Taco. I got rust that has to be seen to be believed, and I have photos. I'm wondering if I should maybe start a new thread or just throw in here?

I guess I should start a new thread, I have a lot of ground to cover before this project is complete, the short list is frame boxing, new gas tank with new mountings and skid plate, fab together a flatbed, and in the end do a disc brake conversion on the rear, plus several other smaller mods. I'll start the thread soon, I'll link it up in my signature, call it "NE'02 TACO Rust Restoration".

Plates are designed to be fully welded from end to end, including the hole cutout. It will rust faster if regular water or water from treated roadway (salted road) get in-between the frame and plates. Because the water will linger and not dry.

The reason I “stich” welded them was because a frame is designed to have a certain amount of flex as it is and with cutting out all the other rust and welding in steel I didn’t even really need the plates when it was all said and done, also I primed in between and undercoated, I’ll be happy if I can get 3 more years out of this truck!
