What's your question OP? Are you asking if it's bad? If so, yes, that's bad.

Before to long we're just gonna call first gens Swiss Gens...

I feel like there should be a third option for folks out of the replacement window... Or with previous owners that had no clue and didn't get the factory coating (which is my case).

Toyota should give us a frame... We'll do the work ourselves...

Should't drive that thing anymore, those shock mounts look like they're about to break off with one good pothole hit. Not to mention the frame breaking more.

You guys with your southern state frames are all Bullies... it's like going up to an amputee in a wheelchair and saying... "Hey...look at this great pair of legs I've got!"

I'm not to sure what answer you are looking for. It is bad in an important area and may be bad in other spots too. Are you considering repairing it, having it repaired, or replacing the frame? What is the mileage and are there any other major issues such as transmission problems, overheating, oil burning, major suspension problems or body rust, can you do the work yourself ? Those answers will suggest the best course to take.

i have been fighting this winter chit for 22+yrs, i got the money for new/salvage frame (if needed, mine is probably 0k they keep telling me )
but not for the cotDamn labour 100+ per hour
i had the clue because of the cars i had when i was a teen/early 20s body panels icky, so i opted in when the time came

i am fixing to have the lone survivor in my state  even though not considered a 'cold climate state' fckme

@wilytoy01 like troyken said there are options, it just depends on what your situation is. I used Safe-T-Caps to breath a bit of new life in the old girl, but i was willing to do the work involved by tearing my whole rear end apart. Some folks are still getting lucky and getting approved for new frames from Toyota. You need to check the rest of the frame with a hammer to see how extensive your rot is. In the end it's up to you if it's worth the time effort and money to fix, replace or let go.

very few left that are eligible for the frame warranty program, just a handful of 04s still are. I think mine is still eligible but I don't have any rust...maybe I should take it in just to see what they say lol.

If there is any possibility of Toyota covering that frame that would be great. I had a '78 Jeep CJ7 that had the rear cross member and spring mounts rotted out by about 1988 or so. 20 years out of a frame in a salt state isn't that bad. I fixed the jeep with plates and angle iron and it was ok after. I live right on the coast though. My truck is rarely ever more than a 1/4 mile from salt water, and they salt the roads in winter so fluid film and rustoleum are my friends and so far so good. Too late for the O/P but others should be very vigilant about inspecting and touching up the frame before it gets this bad. Hopefully it works out for him.
