    What up guys?
I'm planning on rebuilding my transmission in future.
    It's an 02, 2.7L 4cylinder, 4speed automatic, 4x4.

    My question is:
Can my 2002 auto trans be upgraded to a second generation 5speed auto trans?
    Heck...maybe even a 6speed automatic?
If anyone knows, I'd appreciate it.
    Thanx.

You mean like a direct swap? No way. The bell housing wouldn't mount up correctly, I'm not sure if the input shaft is the same size/length, not to mention the length of the unit is probably different, so you'd need different cross members, shift linkage, and probably have to shorten the rear driveshaft and lengthen the front one.
That being said, if you throw enough money at it, you could probably get it to work. Post pics if you do.

    Why not just go manual?

Good point. Bell housing, the diff in drive shaft lenghts etc....but I'm still waiting on the guy on this forum who's actually done it.
    Where r u?

As for just going manual question...nah.
I like manual when driving a sports car n cruising when driving a truck.
    Just personal pref.
    Thanx guys for your input.
    Keepr coming.

image.jpg I like the auto cause I can eat and drink coffe on the way to work, I would rather get a 6cyl why would you want to rebuild a trans for more cruising power wit more gears instead of just getting more power with the bigger engine MPG isn't far off at all

Exactly! Eat. Drink. Comfort n convenience in an automatic.:hungry:
I rather have a V8. But the 4cyli is just for now plus I'm just light off roading n some light recreational family stuff. Camping fishing.
Someday I'll fly over the moon in my v8 like they do in Baja racing.
Anywho... back to da question...possible for a 5 or 6 speed automatic swap in my 1st Gen taco?
    :confused::fingerscrossed:

True. Almost anything is possible with the right depths of your pockets.
Looks like no one here has done this project yet.
