The above is probably the best advice you got on here. Get a revolver in .357 for the above reasons. Take a look at Taurus and go Stainless. Stainless costs a little extra but is worth it. Taurus is cheaper the S&W and is just as good.

Something like this is all you need. LINK

Just for the record my first gun was a revolver. I have owned many guns since then. And do own a few now, all of my pistols are semi autos.

Depends who you ask. The brits call everything a pistol. Nitpick much?

Since you're "not a professional or anything," what makes you feel that you have the grounds to judge other people's opinions and insert your own equally biased ones?

So you're saying you're more qualified to give an opinion? Don't get your panties all up in a bunch, I did what everybody else did, gave my personal opinion. As far as what I have to back it up, I used to teach a target pistol course, so I think I have at least a little knowledge behind my opinions. I'd see guys come in to the range with their 44's or 45's and not be able to hit a 5 inch target at 10 yards because they'd yank the trigger, shut their eyes, flinch, any number of really bad habits that could possibly have been avoided if they hadn't started with a big, loud, hard kicking gun. Nobody has to listen to me any more than they should listen to anyone else, but I will point out that there's at least 2 other posters who've given the exact same advice I gave. I'll say it a 3rd time now, get what you like.

Kingston, you know what Bobby Knight said about rape?

If you can't do anything about it, just lay back and enjoy it.

Same with the testosterone and misinformation on TacomaWorld.

I just had this conversation with a shock vendor that advertises on here.
These threads are 90% bullshit and bravado.

Garbage in, garbage out. Focus on the four fundamentals of marksmanship and the caliber of the gun becomes a non-issue.

Your point is valid: "get what you like." I'm a firm believer in Shooter's Preference but demonizing certain calibers because some people have been lousy shots with them at some point is illogical. Let's give an Equal Opportunity for every bullet.

Wow... good info. I'd not realized that birdshot was so ineffective. Thanks for the pointer.
