I didn't buy my Tacoma because it is fast. In fact, the car I traded in on it is much faster.

Edit: also, the Tacoma is faster in 0-60 although I don't doubt the Camry would beat it to 30mph or so.

Warranty Coverage Denied: You have mud in you're electric motors. Ha!

    Gimme drum brakes!

I don't believe that would be a programmed function, but who knows at this point. There is the discussion raging about choosing who gets hurt / dies in situations such as that.

In the extreme, how would these systems distinguish between a deer and two peeps dressed up like a deer on Halloween wearing an hunters orange vest?

One interesting outcome of all of this is that some people will die who were never intended to while saving others. Weird thoughts there.

Worse in my area, most all offroad access is just gated. We have to go a couple hours away to find access that isn't crowded. So, we're slabbing it to offroad just like we slab it to find good motorcycle roads. Ridiculous.

My best guess is that it was an error in the system. At 40mph at that location, it probably discounts some inputs to not generate false positives? Just a SWAG?

Given the video though, the system should / could have reacted, smoothly even. Just changing lane would probably have avoided the whole thing.

LOL it was sarcasm, however a camry hybrid will walk a tacoma any day of the week-- up to 60 and beyond. Trust me... I have a family member with one.. We race and I lose.
They had 2, a 2007 and now a 2016.. I have lost to both. ECT mode in 4th.

I don't care what specs are, it will WALK a tacoma.

EDIT: They will also out run a tundra, just not as bad as a tacoma.

Like a Diesel/electric locomotive has been doing for fucking decades. I don't know why it's so complicated to do that for a car.

Our old saab 9-3 could do heroics like that against just about anything with 3.0l or 3.5l motors. Being a FWD turbo MT, the launch was always key.

My favorite was pissing off BMW owners.

That said, the Taco is much more fun to drive with the power going to the proper wheels.

Yeah, I had a corvette before the tacoma(s).
I miss it, but it is more convenient, practical, and easier to drive.

Sorry, my meter is malfunctioning today lol. I was comparing C&D 0-60 times for both 2018s, I have no real world experience with it so I'll take your word. I don't drive my Tacoma fast, that's what my supercharged mustang is for

No kidding. A diesel hybrid 4x4 truck would be awesome, electric drivetrains have gobs of torque from zero and a diesel-electric power source would run forever on 19 gallons of fuel.

I think a real benefit of it would be the following: A generator charging a battery bank will almost always be able to operate at peak or near peak efficiency, so it would be even more likely to run forever.

That... ^^^ Formula1 has been doing 6 cyl turbo hybrids for what 4 years now? They can harvest energy from the brakes and charge the battery and get 150-200hp extra for 30+ seconds.

Wheeling it would prolly break the diffs up... it'd be like no traction no traction.... TRACTION with the extra HP button pushed and bang goes the pinion gear and/or crack goes the diff housing.

Not sure how many Tacoma owners would even care about say 100hp at the push of a button for say $15K extra??? Oh and the weight of the batteries... then you'd only be able to haul 500#s extra... kinda defeats the purpose of a medium size pickup truck I'm thinkin.

I'm no kind of a vehicle engineer, but fwiw I was reading some models of the 2019 Ram 1500 will have an "etorque mild hybrid system", which supposedly improves mileage, towing, etc. It includes a "300 watt hour LI NMC battery" and regenerative braking, but I don't think any plug-in ability.

If a mid-size truck came out with such a system + plug-in ability I'd definitely be interested.
