Would a shopping mall be considered an extremely harsh operator environment? I better get some tactical seat covers.

I hear ya...usually time in the shop includes something that I found on TW...bought on Amazon and opened like it was Christmas.

It's usually more that $50. Thanks TW for giving ma hobby...and taking a second Job to pay for it.

Very good point, I didn't pay the extra $10 because the oil was 500 miles old. The second change was done at 5000 rather than 1200 and that sample is on the bench ready to send. I will pay the extra $10 to determine what the TBN is. I believe the base TBN for mobil 1 0-20 is something like 8-9.

Looking to do my first oil change as well at 1200. Did you guys stick with the 0-20 oil? The link on Amazon for the Mobil 1 oil is 0-40 or 5-30 but OEM is 0-20. I dont know much about the difference between these oil. I live in NY if that makes a difference in temp.

Just had first oil change. I followed the logic thinking since the first two are free, why not? 11 miles from the dealer, I came out of hardware store to find puddle of oil under truck and a trail coming from the road. This is the first and last time I will let someone else change oil. Had truck towed home and it is sitting in the grass with a drain pan and cardboard catching the oil as it slowly drains from the filter cap. I should have done it myself. At least I understand that you run engine and check for leaks after an oil change.

    A lesson for all.
How hard is to change your own oil and do it OK first time? Have changed oils for over 30 years and NEVER had any failure.

Won't hurt a thing. Service department puts 6 quarts in mine once a year. A smidgen over the full mark is not going to hurt anything.

Mobil 1 does $12 rebates a few times a year so you can spend less than $30 for everything.

Thanks. I have one more free oil change the 1st week of November then I'll buy the oil at Walmart and the filter off Ebay then take them to the service department for my oil change next year in November.
