Oh, probably no doubt about that ... Here in WA. state .. About 25 years ago, vehicle registration was getting insanely out of control.
On the level of California crazy expensive. (Example: When I lived in CA. I bought a new 95' Dodge B2500 van. 3/4 ton full size van. It was a van conversion, so I didn't have to buy commercial plates.. Even at that, it was $450 a year to register it. And remember, that was $450 in 1995 dollars! Yeeesh!)
Anyway, a lot of us in E. WA. back then, who live close to ID. .. we just rented a PO Box in ID. and had our rigs registered there. $25.00. PO Box in ID. was $20.00 a year.
It didn't take WA. long to figure out they were losing a shit-ton of $$ by having a bunch of defectors getting their rigs registered in ID.
A bill came along (98'-99' I think) that reduced the reg fee to $25.00 ... It's gone up since, but not that bad. My van is $60.00 a year now, so not that bad.
So, that just goes to show that, there's always some kind of work-around. Now reg fees are one thing, but this whole 'You can't buy that HERE!' .. It'll get figured out. And I'm guessing someone will make a pile of $$ figuring it out.

My wife drives a 15 Lexus RC350 F sport, when they told us what the oil change intervals where I was like oh heck no. We bought it with 21k and it now has 75k. I do the oil changes right around the 6k marker. I use the Toyota filter and Amsoil oil. When I change it, it still looks clean and could probably go longer. But I'm sticking to the 6k marker and doing the same with the 18 Tacoma, Toyota filter and Amsoil oil.

I'm at near 3000 miles on my 2020. I've not changed the oil yet. I've been checking it and it's slowly turning a golden color. I had planned to change it myself at like 5000 before the first dealership service.
I did my previous vehicle about every 6000ish miles or twice a year as that's how it worked out before CV19. Since I drive a little less. I also sent a sample to Blackstone labs yearly with the previous vehicle.
In 11 years i have to say it was good to see the oil was always good that engine had good low wear. They also can spot things like high silicon (dirt) which lead me to find a broken air filter box latch. They can detect stuff like more fuel or antifreeze in the oil even in small amounts that can point you to problems before the show up as an engine failure.

I will probably fall back to oil and filter every 6000 or so miles/6 months the same schedule I had with the Jeep when to trucks Toyota care is over.

You're not going to get a consensus. But this is what I would do if I were buying a new truck.

I'd do the 1st oil change at about 5000 miles. Then I'd change the filter at 10,000 miles. At 15,000 I'd change both filter and oil. Then continue to change the filter every 5000 miles and oil at 10,000 for the life of the truck as long as it were driven regularly. That is what I did for the 1st 9 years/180,000 miles on my Tacoma. It doesn't get driven nearly as many miles anymore so I now just change the oil and filter every 6 months without worrying about miles at this point.

If your just interested in seeing if any foreign material collected in the filter just change it out & add a quart of oil if needed.

I am only at 3K miles but at the 6 month mark should I get the oil changed per the "timing" they recommend or wait for the 4,500 miles they recommend?

Got mine at end of of August. Salesman said bring it back for "free" oil change every 5000 miles or 6 months...whichever comes first for 4 years. By free (and I asked) it means actually free with factory stuff correct? They mentioned it would help my trade in value if I stuck with the schedule and it was all documented. I don't think I'll ever trade it and I hope I can believe them about all this free talk. I'm too old to change the oil myself and don't have the equipment anymore so free maintenance sounded great to me. I also got nervous every time we took my wife's Jeep into the dealer for service. Stopped this year and went to our local independent mechanic/tire dealer. We trust him.

I just did my engine oil, front and rear differentials, transfer case and transmission and changed my spark plugs this week. I am just short of 60,000 miles on my 2107. I've been changing my engine oil by usage really. I live out in the desert so if I am mostly long highway miles then I may let it to to 10,000 miles. However if I am off roading, towing, or if it is summer and the temperature is about 115 then I change change the oil at 5,000 miles. Also I lube the propeller and rotate the tires every 5,000 miles regardless.

I would personally do the first one early, say at 1,000 to 1,500miles or so. Then every 5,000 after that. But, it's your baby and you're the one paying the bills.

I had to change oil at 500 miles on my C7 Corvette to keep from voiding the engine warranty.

I did my first oil change on my '18 TRD Sport at 5,000 miles and will do so every 5,000 miles thereafter.

I've done 5,000 miles on my '96 Tacoma 4x4 and it has 414,000 trouble-free miles on it.

Right, but didn’t GM mess up the engine in some initial cars also ? Some sort of foreign material issue right ?

That is not quite true. At least for me on my Rav4. The Toyota dealership I went to for the free 10k interval oil changes uses young kids....not the regular mechanics who do the more complex work. I was doing mine every 5k and letting Toyota do the 10k. Anyway, they cranked the filter on so tightly that I could not remove it after draining the oil. I had my vehicle transported on a tow vehicle flat bed to the dealership (I was compensated for this and have AAA) and I showed the service manager how tight the filter was on. He agreed with me and said he would talk to the "kids" doing the oil changes. Anyway, regarding the service interval...Toyota has Canadian vehicles oil changed at 5k not 10k with synthetics. BTW I'm here because I am going to buy a Tacoma to replace my Rav4. love Toyota reliability.
