Yeah, I made the mistake once, because I was just way too busy and told the wife to take her rig to Jiffy Lube and have them change the oil/filter.
Well the next time I went to change the oil/filter ... That filter was spun on so tight, I'd of sworn they used a 1/2" impact gun, turned up to 100 psi to put it on. It was the only time I ever literally had to do the 'Pound a Phillips-head screwdriver with a hammer through the filter and remove' method.
When I go in for my first 'free' oil and filter change .. If I see a 19 year-old with their hat on backwards doing the work? Best believe I'm gonna be hovering over them and saying 'Hand Tighten Only' about every 10 seconds.

Yeah, the 0-20w caught me off guard too ... All I kept thinking was .. OK, I know it's engine oil, but it just seems like 'water' to me...
Well ... If that's what they say.... Even my wife's 17' Forester says 5-30w .. At least that 'sounds' like something, right? LOL!

You can test your oil at Blackstone to establish the proper interval vs flushing money down the drain. That’s what I did on my 420k mile crown Vic. That said the original question still stands.

I may drain the oil and refill at 1000 miles. I’ll keep the filter in place

By the way if you are a Costco member. They sell the Kirkland brand 0-20 Synthetic with 2 5 quart containers in a box. I'm sure its Mobile One or the equivilent under the Kirkland brand and its much cheaper. I do my own changes and use Toyota oil filters and I go by the Toyota Canadian schedule even though I live in the US. For me, its just cheap insurance.

It's because the Grandsport and Z06 C7s have a 'dry-sump' lubrication system (no oil pan, two oil pumps and a reservoir) so it's important no foreign matter gets in the system.
The standard Stingray model which has a wet sump doesn't require the 500 mile initial oil change.

Ignore factory recommended oil change intervals, drop the factory oil and go with a top synthetic oil. I'm up in Canada (♡Alberta) and I change it every 6000k (kilometers). Modern engines are not like in the old day...break in for so many kilometers/miles...

    I've only done 10k intervals.

I started my own oil changes at 30k after the free ones went away.

I'm at 90k and have been sending my oil off for samples to Blackstone.... no issues so far.

All well known synthetic oil brands have additive packages to prevent that stuff from happening. Some are just a bit better doing it longer than others.

Going to let the dealer do my '23 between 1000-1500 miles... then I will do what I trust. Either Mobil-1 EP 0w20 or5w20.

Just expect the dealer to give you some stange looks when you tell them you want your oil change at that mileage.

Either way, the truck is going to be serviced no matter who does it.I certainly expect that response from the dealer. I have 15+ years dealership fixed operations and have seen a lot.
