For what its worth, my mechanic told me since I live in a “high dust environment” (the desert) I should change it every 5k.

Ive talked to several mechanics about this and the general consensus is that 10k oil change interval is pushing it in their opinions. I’ve been told that the 10k interval number happens from testing on a dyno and in the real world your oil is gonna get dirty faster.

I went 7500 for my first oil change because I was busy as fuck and kept putting it off, now I do 5k.

But this topic always starts a flame-war on TW so the safe answer is to change it as often as you feel comfortable.

yahtzee! It’s an old school train of thought with zero foundation in modern trucks and manufacturing. i work in auto/aero manufacturing and it’s definitely not a big risk.

I changed mine at 1k. Well. 1.2ish it was cold so I waited a few days. I’ll probably do one at 5k then 10k and then fall into the 10k rotation.

when in doubt follow the manual. But follow it under the heavy duty rotation because I don’t trust atf never needs to be changed. Nope.

    Every time.

Don't question it. If you can think of the interval, the answer is yes.
Trust me. I stayed at a Holiday Inn once.

I have my dealer rotate my tires every 2,000 miles. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

10k? I thought these new motors were good for 30k intervals. Its a Toyota after all. Could probably run on corn syrup and piss.

I do my oil changes every 5-6k miles. Probably not necessary but it gives me a peace of mind. I do drive it hard sometimes and carry loads quite often. Im planning to keep this truck for min 10-15 years.

I did mine at 5K, Toyota maintenance also states if regularly driven under 5miles and below 32 deg.do it at 5K. I qualified for that

I'm religious about maintaining my rig. I generally use M1 when I find it on sale or with a rebate. In the 4 months that it takes for me to hit the 5k mark, I can always find a deal on it.

But just for shits and giggles I'm going to use SuperTech on the next change and post it up just to see the triggering that will ensue. :D

I will, however, stick with my M1 or Fram Ultra filter.

    * NOTE: My rig is at 73k miles and I'm under the Platinum warranty until 125k. Being a 2nd gen...5k OCs are what it calls for. And yes...that's overkill with my driving habits.

Did mine around 9k, bought the truck at 8k, just turned 10k on it last week. Owned it about 5 months. Planning on using it more now. At this rate though my one year or 10k rule will mean that my second oil change will be maybe 8k.

Please report if you find the oil filter tight or loose :crapstorm::bananadead:
